Looks pretty simple to me, throw a 1st to Dal for one extra year of ET. Yes, I know Dal wouldn’t do this but IF they did we would be so much better with Wes’s heart, hustle, D, and toughness than we are with ET.

I would be shoked if Neil makes a trade, because it's Neil

Honest question - where does all this “Neil is close with Woj/ESPN” stuff come from? Do not people think every GM has a direct line with these people?

Based mostly on their ignorant hate for a person. They can even speak for him and know all of his thoughts at any given time, lol.

It's really not based on ignorant hate for him. I have never asserted if he's "close" with Woj or not, but the appearance has been that Woj seems to have a pretty direct line of communication with NO that is closer or at least more public than other GM's. NO has been on Woj's podcast, has done interviews with him, Woj has tweeted a lot of direct quotes from NO. So I believe people believe that Woj has at least at the least a pretty good relationship with NO. So it's not just oh I dislike NO so I fabricated up some story about him being close to Woj, there is actual evidence out there that Neil and Woj communicate fairly regularly. I'm sure Woj does that with a lot of GM's that's how he stays so in touch with what's going on. I am not even advocating that the two having a good relationship is a bad thing. It would make sense for NO to have good national media relationships.

I get that but I've openly said, even outside of just basketball NO's personality at times just drives me crazy. So I'm a good candidate for guys who "don't like NO". When it comes to NO I really have to remind myself he's made some pretty good moves too, it's hard to be "balanced" and look at it from a not shaded lens when I have a certain bias there because I just find his personality grating. On top of that to be fair to him what his personality is on Camera or on a podcast or whatever may not be a good representation of who he actually is.

I think initially when he was hired in Portland Neil was more public and open- and visible. It didn’t resonate with people and it didn’t do him any good so he has stepped back. I think he’s a really smart guy and his roots are NY- and that rubs people sometimes the wrong way. I think he is of the mindset now where it’s like, “what’s the point in speaking and being open”, so he isn’t. This is a guy who grew up in NY, playing basketball growing up with guys like Mark Jackson and other New Yorkers and is somewhat old school. He doesn’t have much patience for bullshit even tho people think he’s the ultimate bullshitter. I don’t think he is, my opinion only. He has an ego no doubt and thinks he knows more than anyone else in the room. This rigidness will likely be his downfall imo. It’s why I wish he’d revamp the front office and bring in someone who opens his mind a bit.

You might be right, and I'm trying really hard to not just be down on NO and Stotts lately, so I'll just leave it at he hasn't ever been all that "likable" to me, but I realize I need to try to get out of my feelings when I evaluate how he has done at his job. He's done some good and some bad like literally all the rest of the GM's in the NBA. I like Stotts personality by the way. In my opinion, in order for my criticism to be meaningful, I have to take the time to understand their reasoning for doing things, to take a measured approach to things rather than the pitchfork style which is much easier to employ.

I can somewhat understand why people defend Stotts. If nothing else, he seems like a legit nice person. Olshey is both less than mediocre at his job AND a patronizing, condescending, bloviating, egotist.

I don’t really see a point in using our firsts to get rid of contracts that expire in 2020. Better use that pick to acquire a player that could maybe contribute off the bench after we get rid of all the contracts in 2020 (Meyers, Turner, Harkless all expire then). If we are to use a pick I would use it to acquire someone that could actually help us this season & beyond (Prince or any other young player).

Next year we might be able to use our bad contracts as salary fillers to acquire someone useful or even facilitate a 3-team deal to get some extra assets.

That's why a lot of trades to dump salary include getting a guy like Prince too.

Plus I’d be surprised if Prince fetched a first by himself anyway. Guys like that go for a lot less.
