They wanted Cap Space, not "NOTHING". They also got two picks and a very good young prospect.

Cap space is nothing. You can argue it's better than a bad something (contracts), but it's nothing by definition when you failed to sign marquee FAs for 10+ summers in a row.

The picks are not unprotected which is ridiculous. Smith is Steve Francis for the poor, THJ is a pretty good player too, Knicks got fleeced.

One pick is unprotected; the second one is top-10.

Agree with the rest of the premise. Knicks capspace hasn't been worth much historically.

Yea, i double checked and it is unprotected.
Still, a draft pick from a team coached by Rick and led by Doncic + legit NBA players around him? how much that's worth? horrible deal.

So getting out of bad contracts is meaningless? Clearing cap space to sign a star means nothing? Also, the 2021 pick is unprotected. Tim Hardaway is good? You mean the guy whos putting up empty points on a terrible team who doesnt pass, doesnt defend, and has a FG% that's under 39%? That THJ?

But screw it, if you want to keep twisting the narrative just so you can complain about Olshey, go ahead.

Doesnt matter what it's been worth in the past though, it matters to the Knicks because they obviously valued it in a Porzingas deal, and we didnt have the ability to help them get it.

Getting out of bad contracts is important if you're a top class organization like the Heat,Spurs,Celtics etc. Dolan and the Knicks are a dumpster fire, even the Kings' rep is on it's way up. I still remember how the Knicks thought they actually had a chance with Lebron, but no one takes them seriously when it's time to sign the paper.

THJ is not putting "empty points", he is a talented 5th-7th man who was asked to LEAD a bad team. That means taking awful shots at times. Trey Burke has also looked good this past year.

I kinda hate arguing with you because you are always so aggressive lol.
Yea, people are going to be upset that their favorite team is not capitalizing on opportunities, i never even said anything about Olshey in my initial post. It's pretty obvious that my anger is directed towards the Knicks for not getting fair value and Cuban who gets good\excellent players for free from other GMs.

Two future seconds for the expiring of Rodney Hood, someone please stop this guy...

and i don't care if Hood scores 40 in his debut, even Stauskas had some amazing moments, but still meaningless reagular season...

What good/excellent players did Cuban get for free?? He had to give up two picks each for Doncic and KP. He also had to give up his first round pick from last season. He took risks. Nothing was handed to him.

The whole point of the draft is hitting the jackpot by getting players like Doncic, the odds on getting a future all-star\superstar is against you for the most part. It was a CLEAR steal for everyone when he got him and now that he got him - his future picks will be worse anyway.

How smart were the Blazers when they gave up CP3's pick for Webster+Future whatever?

The trade back from #3 in the 2005 draft was horrible but that was 14 years and many GMs ago.

Our current GM did hit the jackpot in the draft with Lillard. It's really hard to hit multiple jackpots though.

I think this is generated more to get another open roster spot. Rodney Hood though could actually contribute at some point.

Knicks wanted capspace for two max FA this summer. They got the capspace. We could not offer what they wanted so there was no way NO could get Porzingis, but don't let the fact we didn't have what they wanted get in the way of the FIRE NO because a player that this board wanted was gotten by another team.

We didn't have the capspace they wanted....but whose fault is that? Who held a gun to Neil's head and offered every single one of Crabbe, Turner, Harkless and Leonard a 4 year extension....on top of the amount of money? The $$$ AND the length of those contracts has hamstrung this franchise since the day they were signed. Any financial advisor worth their salt will talk to you about dollar cost averaging going in and laddering going at at least as an option. Neill chose to give 4 year deals to everyone there by having no ending contracts coming up before then.

    That's on him.

    That's not his fault.
God told him to do that.
