So here's my proposal. Twice a season, there is a random trade. One player from each team is put into a hat and randomly reassigned to another team. Could be Trent Jr. that gets traded, could be Damian. We could get LeBron back, we could get Raymond Felton. barfo
I'm generally with you jlprk unless one doesn't like the trade much. For instance, I think this is a good one, and leaves our 1st intact. I did not like the Afflalo trade, and the reasoning that you trade away 8+ years of control over a future young player to rent-a-bench-player. Frankly, I would've probably preferred Wayne Ellington in the "one-year player without Bird Rights for the puu puu platter" deal, but that's picking nits. Similarly, if we traded our 1st for Terrence Ross, I wouldn't like it, even though I like Ross's game.
I like this trade. It deals away two guys who sucked, and got someone who is, at the very least, a decent bench player.
I like it for the same reasons....but it is not the upgrade the Blazers need to really make a difference.
defensive rating is a fairly useless stat for individual players. Can't make comparisons at all about the only good they are for players is comparing individual players to their team rating * for instance, in 16-17 Hood had a defensive rating of 107 which was 2 points worse than Utah's rating of 105 * in 17-18, Hood had a rating of 107, again, which was 3 points worse than Utah's 104 rating * 15-16 was the same 107 for Hood when the Jazz rating was 104 so by that gauge, Hood's defense sucked. And defensive box plus/minus 'confirms' the suckage because over those 3 seasons, Hood ranked 14th, 13th, and 15th on the Jazz...that's bad The RPM stat pages at ESPN are down right now so I can't see where Hood ranked in that stat, but I suspect it shows the same thing just to complete this thinking, if you were going to rank Portland's SF's now by defense it would be Harkless Turner/Layman Hood
The roster is 'begging' for some type of consolidation to more quality over quantity. Let's hope Neil is up to the challenge.

How many years have the Blazers talked about consolidation trades? How many have they actually made? I know such trades aren't that easy - but if it isn't going to happen, they need to stop talking about it!
One good thing about this trade... It wasn't financially motivated so people can't claim that Olshey only traded for Hood because of the salary impact and that he just lucked into any contribution Hood brings.
Agreed, I thought all year whatever moves they made would be cap related. Now it could be a “precursor” type of deal that leads to something bigger for salary cap stuff. However right now it appears to not be motivated by the cap!
No - but if the Blazers do better than 0-4 in the play-offs you can bet he will claim this deal was the sole difference maker!
I actually wouldn't mind doing a tax saving move now. It would potentially clear up some of the rotation issues.
My whole point is this trade will be judged strictly on the players/picks involved and not any other reasons.
