Was listening to Lowe's podcast and they were talking about the Gerald Wallace trade. Had to debrief myself but found this gem: http://www.espn.com/new-york/nba/st...forward-gerald-wallace-portland-trail-blazers We almost got 4 first round picks for that! I wonder where they would have come from. I know the one we got turned into Dame, but there's a good chance we could have gotten Dame anyways.
I'll have to do some digging, and I for sure can't claim credit, but I do remember the discussions on this board about it. Billy was big on not using draft picks other than as trade fodder (the famous "we only see 3 good players" in the Davis/Lillard draft, hence giving us #6), so I don't doubt that we would've received the lightly-protected NJN pick in 2012 and a couple of futures that ended up going to rebuild the BOS dynasty.
So, Dame in 2012 (duh) 2014 unprotected NJN = #17 (James Young) 2016 unprotected NJN = #3 (Jaylen Brown) 2017 swap with NJN = #1 (traded for Tatum and Boston will receive the more favorable of Philadelphia's 2019 1st round pick protected for selection 1 and Sacramento's 2019 1st round pick (via Philadelphia) protected for selection 1) 2018 unprotected NJN = (traded sent with Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder for Kyrie) So, uh, yeah...Ainge got Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Kyrie, and likely SAC's lotto pick this year. And the rumor was that he could've traded the pick that became Jaylen Brown for Paul George.
That's the thing, we don't know what the picks were. But if you look at what the Nets were willing to give up for Paul Pierce and KG you could surmise that we would have gotten the picks from those deals (2014, 2016, 2018) along with the lightly protected 2012 pick that turned into Lillard. These picks turned into: 2014 - James Young 2016 - Jaylen Brown 2018 - Collin Sexton The Celtics also got the right to swap the 2017 pick....which turned into the number 1 pick....who they flipped for Tatum. We probably would not have gotten that pick.
I don't get why we'd get 4 1st rounders instead of 1 for giving up the exact same player? That makes no sense and I refuse to believe that.
Presumably, lots of salary was moving around and extra picks went to the facilitator. You'd think most of them would have been headed to Orlando, though. Doesn't make much sense.
