Teams should fine players for requesting trades.

By fining them if they sit him I feel like the league is basically saying they should've given in to his trade demand even if they got crap for him. I don't think that's right to do.

NO should have suspended him 10 games for conduct detrimental to the team. Not sure the league could have interfered with that one. I'm sure they would try though. You have to keep AD's brand up for when he ends up in a major market. $$$$

It's crap. But they should call the league's bluff. Send AD home, scratch out a $2.5M check to the league, and write "screw you" on the memo line.

They're also threatening to suspend team officials according to SI. That's just interfering too much.

Where was the league when Kawhi refused to play? If they wanted to have a leg to stand on here, they should have been fining Kawhi back then.

Did he simply "refuse to play", or did he (claim to) not believe himself to be healthy enough to do so?

Kawhi was smart enough to provide a legitimate reason to support his not playing. Pels haven't done so. As was mentioned earlier, they should have suspended AD for conduct detrimental; then they would have had a valid reason to not play him, and the league wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

NOP just needs to hire Tonya Harding's crew to take out AD's knee. That'll sideline him for a month or two, problem solved.

I'm confused. People wanted LMA to talk about being traded so we could get something for him.

What's the big deal about Davis saying he wanted to be traded? The nba is weird.

I don’t think the league cares, because you will just get fined $5.

As I see it, nobody has a problem with Davis telling his team that he wants to be traded, so much as leaking that out to the public, and more problematically leaking an extremely limited list of destinations with whom he'll re-sign, thereby artificially limiting the return New Orleans can receive in the eventual trade. HOWEVAH...the whole "suspend him for conduct detrimental" thing isn't suggesting that the team should actually punish him for his actions; just that they should create a legitimate excuse to not play him, since they clearly don't want to, and the NBA is essentially forcing them to.

Yeah, that's one of the things Van Gundy brought up in the telecast of AD's first game back. He was basically criticizing the NBA the entire broadcast and I agreed with essentially everything he said. Playing Anthony Davis right now is not in their best interest yet they're being forced to. It's ludicrous.

Of course, I would love for us to win it all (should go without saying), but if not us, I'd love to see the Sixers win it all. But then again, I wonder when the Warriors win it all, would this prompt KD to leave them or is that a pipe dream?

The way I feel about it is that it shouldn't be Public. Requesting a trade behind closed doors doesn't screw over your current franchise it allows them to try to find the best deal. Making your "demands" public, especially in the middle of the season, pretty much screws up the chemistry of your team, edit: it also derails the season for a lot of guys who may be in contract years, it tells the entire league that your current team knows they will get pennies on the dollar for a player. Players / Teams don't have any loyalty to each other and I get it, teams can trade players without saying anything or even basically lying to them see Neil Olshey Trading Aminu and Gordon in LAC, I would not have wanted LMA to come out publicly and say I want to be traded (IF) he didn't want to be here, but I would have wanted him to make his intentions clear to the FO and GM.

That’s the thing, they don’t have a leg to stand on. Not from any logical or moral standpoint anyway. The NBA is basically a branch of ESPN at this point. They want to penalize teams that go against a media narrative, and let other teams’ identical offenses slide if it’s good for ratings. The overwhelming majority of NBA fans are zombies who want to see an all star game every night of the season and the NBA panders to that mentality.
