So let's compare starters with end of the bench guys?...given Sabonis role with Indiana I think Jake would have had at least as much impact..Sabonis never thrilled me with his game but he is improving. Sabonis has much more court time to be impactful

What are you arguing? He said Jake has more impact than Sabonis. I disagree. If you think Sabonis is a starter (he's not) and Jake is an end of the bench guy (he's not) then why are you arguing for a statement saying Jake has more impact? It makes absolutely 0 sense.

Sabonis is better at pretty much everything on a per minute basis.

Sabonis has the advantage in:
Scoring rate (Pts Per 36)
Rebound %
Assist %
Defense (DBPM, Def RPM)
Offense (OBPM)
Efficiency (TS%)
Overall Advanced Stats (PER, WS/48, etc)

All of those stats account for minute differential, which isnt much (6.2) and is a very weak and flawed reason to claim that Layman is more impactful.

And was healthy and a better player before his injury, which KP foresaw, and made the right trade for. Bad luck doesnt make it the wrong decision at all. Even if you think it was wrong, that doesnt matter.

We couldnt have had both PG and Mitchell. But if you want to believe that, go ahead.

Oladipo was compared to Michael Jordan coming out of college. I believe we tried to move up in draft to get him.

 

So was Harold Minor. Never happened and Oladipo is no Jordan.

 

Obviously the latter looking back now but hindsight is 20/20. I think it could be argued that at the time of that trade CJ/1st rounder had more value than Oladipo/Sabonis. I seem to remember a lot of people were surprised at how little value they got for PG. Vic blew up after the trade though and now most would say he’s more valuable than CJ. I think most teams knew Indian was in a bind and only offering complimentary peices, not “stars”, for PG.

My statement was a simple statement of fact that he is hurt. Right now we have CJ. CJ is not nursing a knee injury. Olapido is nursing a knee injury. Nothing more nothing less.

 

They were playing really well just last month. Weird?

 

I kind of think if CJ was given reins of a team like Olidipo was in Indy he could be fairly equivalent to VO. Probably better on offense, and worse on defense, but VO struggled in OKC, and was underwhelming in Orlando. We haven't seen CJ ever try to be a number one somewhere if he did I think he would excel at it. The difference to me isn't so much in those two players as much as I think Sabonis was a better 2nd asset/piece than what the Blazers were going to give up hypothetically.

 

Sabonis in his rookie year:

Played 81 of 82 games and started 66 of those.

Averaged 20.1 minutes per game while only averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds.

His Per-36 numbers weren't good so it's not like he was just not getting minutes.

His FG% was 39.9% which is downright terrible for a big man.

He was so bad he was basically benched in the playoffs.

Now you could look at it as an Olshey special on a lottery pick that still has potential but I don't think anyone saw Sabonis play in OKC that year and thought he was an asset that couldn't be matched. Much like Bones is doing with Oladipo you are doing the same thing with Sabonis.
