Lasting trauma doesn’t necessarily have to be in the job description for workers who watch graphic or violent videos as part of their jobs. Content moderators, journalists, and activists often have to wade through horrific images, videos and text to do their work, a task that can imperil their mental health and lead to post-traumatic stress disorder. Luckily, experts say there are ways to minimize the harms of so-called vicarious or secondary trauma. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is caused by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying incident, and the symptoms include acute anxiety, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts. Though most people think about PTSD in the context of war or being physically involved with a crisis, in recent years there has been growing acceptance that repeatedly viewingtraumatic events could cause the condition as well. Pam Ramsden, a psychologist at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, presented research at a 2015 British Psychological Association conference that found that a quarter of people who watched distressing images of violent events developed symptoms of PTSD. https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/27/...ental-health-ptsd-psychology-science-facebook

Then dont mod so much??? This place is over modded already. The he said she said constant back and forth is prolonged due to no proof. dont delete/edit posts and no more he said/she said confrontations would be over faster, because people cant get away with denying thier actions/statements Mods make the job harder than it is by the rules they have instilled. Sorry. No sympathy over here.
I know. How dare i be an advocate for free speech in a country for free speech on an american nba team website that has full on censorship. What on earth was i thinking to point that out as a cause to the stress. Not sure how any mod thinks its not gonna be hell when you are instilling cencorship on a forum in a country founded on free speech. How dare i? Lol
I'd have a hard time moderating that Zere Gear thread -- the handmade Blazer crafts. I believe it was Ssntee that made "Zer underwear" with his jew-fro-bush in plain sight.
Free speech doesn’t necessarily make everything better. My students don’t have the go ahead to just start talking in the middle of class while I’m teaching. I like that people should be held to a certain standard of conduct when it comes to what they say. Maybe that’s just me.
well hate speech is speech....you want that spewing all over the country? this country was founded with free speech for the privileged white male but women and slaves sure didn't have it nor Natives when the country was formed....we're supposed to have it now in this country but free speech should also include all languages as well....not free speech if you only "speak American"...mods issues here do not have to do with free speech but rather with aggressive negativity most of the time and they are not paid to deal with it..which is why I'd never want to moderate here....nor would anyone else want me to. I'd ban a bunch of folks first day...let it go OB....nothing personal but you are repeating yourself with this issue quite a bit.
You understand that free speech is about government speech control - not about private enterprise, right? If you go around dropping f-bombs and scaring people at a retail environment they have every right to kick you out - moderating this forum is not different nor illegal. Free speech is great and dandy but it is often used in the wrong context - as your statement clearly is. Frankly, people that find the moderation here overbearing (or not sufficient) can pack their bags and go enjoy themselves at another forum / e-gathering. So much whining about moderators, geez.
I understand everything you guys are saying and disagree with how its handled here. There are many other ways to handle rather than an opinion based mod deleting things. How about a flag system? So many members flag a post and then it is determined a certain percentage of posters don't agree with the post and when it hits a certain percentage then it is deleted? Then the mods don't have to scour the boards for violations. The members make the mods aware by flagging posts. There are many other ways that being a dictator type site and just deleting without any option for the public to see what was going on. And i'm not whining about the mods. The mods whine about the work the have to do(this thread?????????), so i'm providing options and letting them know its their own rules that create the work . Call that whining if you want, I don't give a shit. I stand by my opinion.
