Divisional winners are determined first. We would have to finish with a better record than Denver (highly unlikely)
I expect CJ will be back for the Denver games. This should show us what we will look like for the playoff picture. I would like to clinch 3 spot before we dream about getting the 2 spot.
But look at the schedule. They play GS and then us twice. If we win out, Denver just needs one more loss. Losing streaks happen in this league and they blew it last year too.
2 or 3, I'm just loving the way the playoff bracket looks if we can finish ahead of Houston. Warriors, Rockets, Jazz and Thunder all on the same side, with us, Denver, Clippers and Spurs on the other. Even without Nurk, we'd have a decent shot at a WCF run in that scenario.
One more win gets us to 50 - that's a successful regular season, and one more than we won last season.
I'm seeing Dame getting hounded on traps and guys continually attacking him on defense. He looks absolutely worn out. I really want to give him a few days rest. Will take that over a chance at #2.
Denver has a tough schedule remaining. They have the Spurs at home tomorrow after tonight's game against the Warriors. Could definitely be a letdown spot. They also have a road game at the Jazz remaining. It's possible that we could split the 2 games with them and still finish ahead of them (that's assuming we take care of the Grizzlies, Lakers and Kings).
How? If the division tie is broken before the playoff seeding tie, Denver would win a tie-breaker over Portland, and therefore the division.
The division tie breaker would apply first and we'd lose that to Denver (basically due to us going 0-4 against OKC).
Aren't we a full game ahead in his scenario? Maybe I'm confused. How would a tie breaker apply if we're a game ahead?
We were discussing the scenario where Houston, Denver, and us were all tied for the 2nd seed. Obviously we win the division if we were a game ahead.
I’m so excited about tonight’s 4 games. They all impact the Blazers. Spurs and Thunder can clinch a worse record than us if they lose. In other words, if they both lose, we can do no worse than 6th seed. Also- it’s fun when Spurs and Thunder lose. The Rockets play the Kings and it’s obvious why we want them to lose. And the nightcap of GS vs Denver will impact the Top 4 seeds in a big way.
