I also was a Conservative Republican. I supported Barry Goldwater. Actually still revere his name. Even attended a Young Americans for Freedom, Right wing, meeting one time. Then, my father told me a lot of stories about racism in Alabama and I started to change. Yes, racism is the fundamental reason I switched from the Right wing to the Left.
