Portland could offer the full-MLE but they'd have to shed some major salary someway-somehow to get far enough under the apron not to risk a hard cap

would the 25th pick be enough to convince Atlanta to take Meyers without send back any salary?

Nah, it's not that easy. If a team like Atlanta was willing to take on Meyers and a 1st, they would've done so for a guy like Jeremy Lin at the deadline.

The timing of shedding salary is going to make this very difficult. No teams can take our contracts at the draft if the trade isn't pushed to the new league year and it's unlikely any team would be willing to sacrifice cap space before free agency anyway unless they're getting something better than the 25th pick. Waiting to do what the Nuggets did last summer would likely mean that Curry, Hood, and Kanter might have already signed elsewhere or that there are no teams left with cap space willing to take on money.

Unless something changes, we're in a tough spot to open up the Full-MLE without losing most of our free agents.

Maybe they can all just take vets minimum and a bonus guaranteed by handshake if they make the playoffs again? Nothing on paper though. That gets messy.

I've literally broken our cap situation down to a T in one of my videos.

I still think Harkless, #25, future 2nd(s) for Prince and #35 or #42 (or whatever their other 2nd is) makes a lot of sense both ways. If Atlanta doesnt have the space, they can agree in principal.

Or we can let Aminu go and trim around the edges (ex. Meyers [1yr, $11M] for Felicio [2yrs, $8M]) which would give us $16M under the hard cap which is enough to bring back Kanter for $8M, our 1st round pick, and one of Layman/Hood for $4.5M or less (Hood for $4.25M with non-bird rights), and a 2 minimum contracts.

That would give us 14 players.

    9-Man Rotation:
    Lillard (36) / Simons (12)
    McCollum (36) / Hood (8) / Simons (4)
    Harkless (16) / Hood (16) / Turner (16)
    Collins (26) / Harkless (16) / Labissiere (6)
    Kanter (30) / Labissiere (18)

Reserves: Trent, Felicio, 1st Round Pick, 2 Min Contracts

well if you go down that path..Ed got swept here with that job..Zach won game 1...even though he wasn't really an impact player in the game. I love Ed...sure he's better than Zach but Zach is also on a rookie deal...watch Zach's last game against Golden State if you want to see the kid's future. You have youth like Zach and Skal….Ed is going to not going to like the role we'd have for him

Where is Nurk in this scenario? On the team, just not in the rotation because he is hurt?

In Neil Oshay we trust (if he does not take the Fakers job).

I don't see Atlanta doing that and the rest of the post I don't think is great. We'd be a little worse than this year. Plus I hate adding salary in 2020 just to save a couple million this year.

    Agreed.
Dump Turner or Meyers if at all possible.

Don't go through great lengths just to be able to use the full MLE.

He listed 14 guys. So. that makes Nurk the 15th guy. When he's healthy he's starting C again.

Who knows, another summer of development and maybe Skal could handle some legit playing time? I’d really like to see a bit more of Skal/Zach together. I’m pretty confident Simons can take all of Curry’s minutes. That means resign Hood and Chief and trade the 3 expirings at the deadline.

Even though if Moe ever gave any consistency I’d wanna keep him. Nards and ET gotta go though.

    I don't know about this?
Something tells me if they let Curry walk they are gonna hate that move.

Something tells me Curry's going to get an offer he can't refuse. Best 3pt shooter in the league and can play a resemblance of defense? I'd say that's in demand.

I doubt it is about 'letting' Curry go. Kemba is out in Charlotte and could have money to spend. Curry is from there and I can see Jordan wanting to put a friendly face on the court who won't be too expensive but certainly more than Portland can pay.

Cannot disagree with either of you. But something tells me the Blazers will regret losing him.

I think Kemba takes the Charlotte money, they can offer the most and to this point he’s never really cashed in. (Previous contract was 4/48mil)

If Simons is 80% of what we saw in the Sac game no one will care about Curry imo. Great handle, shot, passer and decent rebounder. Perfect 3rd guard with unlimited ceiling.

Probably so. Losing one of the best percentage '3' shooters in the league can't be a good thing. I think we all hope that Simons can step in and contribute at least a solid portion of what Curry provided. It seems he certainly has the ability to be better (down the road) and can do more things, but it will take seasoning.

Also, 37 games Curry scored 6 points or less an 8 games he didn't play at all. That is 45 games where the production really wasn't very much. We were blessed with a late season run of much higher production, and he shot it well all year when he did shoot, but that is over half the season where there wasn't that much of a scoring contribution. Only 4 times did he get 3 assists or more.....for the whole year. Not Gary Trent level but, 32 games where there were 0, zip, nada assists.

Curry does more that what shows up on a stat sheet and I agree the Blazers will miss him, but I think there could be some nights Simons gives us meteoric glimpses of the future.
