IMO not gonna happen in any way shape or form. The Kid is a sieve on defense and he will get scouted. Curry is a veteran and plays defense well. Anticipates the ball movement better. It will be Curries 5th year out of 6. he is way better seasoned at this point. Simmons is a huge project. 2-3 years away from that kind of game.

Coming into this year, Curry had only played in 118 games in his career. He hadn’t had that much experience. Simons didn’t look like a 2-3 years away from being a journeyman project on closing night. I wonder how good Simons may have been on Spurs in the situation where Murray got hurt and they had to start Simons. Or what if Simons had been in Donovan Mitchell’s position last year? Jazz had gaping hole for a scoring guard. And how good would Mitchell have been perceived if he was a bench player for us last year?

To be fair, anyone decent will be scouted. Of course Curry is light years ahead of Simons....as he should be. I'm just saying that for it being Curry's 6th year in the league, he averaged 7.9 ppg, 0.9 assists on an eFG% just a tick below....Jake Layman. That doesn't seem like the bar is THAT high.

Simons didn’t seem bad on defense by the way. He’s got long arms and he can move. The first half was rough on closing night cuz Kings couldn’t miss but from the time I’ve seen him on the defensive end of the court, he looks good.

Exactly. Ultimately I believe Simons will be better than Curry. But there's no way Simons replicates Curry next season. Experience matters.

I think maybe you forgot how much a lottery team scored on him in the first half. Seriously? What team gives up almost 90 points in a half?
This was against the Kings no less?

    You missed this post:
Sometimes teams don’t miss. He wasn’t getting beat.

What team gives up 72 points in 19 minutes of a home playoff game? The Defending Champs. That’s much worse than what we did on closing night in my opinion. Oh and how did we win that game? We must’ve played sensational D in the second half by definition.

Wait, we are talking about Blazer back-court defense? Let the first GOOD Blazers guard defender cast the first stone.

You guys are putting very unrealistic expectations on a 20 year old project that had a good game without any pressure whatsoever on him. Last game of the year against a team that was poor at best. Sure he had a good game. 2-3 years until he is NBA ready.

Even more so. Good teams play with veteran players. The Blazers are good and getting better because of their time together and the years they have now. Not one starter under 6 years. If they try to bring Simmons in he will struggle for at least a year IMO.

Edit- Not one starter under 6 years.

37 points and 9 assists has been done by three teenagers in NBA history. LeBron, Durant, and Simons.

I just think we better curb some expectations before crowning him the next KING or Durantula.
Lets hope he matures and plays well. I certainly hope he can replace Curry because it looks like he is gonna have to. My preference would be to find a way to keep Curry for at least another year. he is the solid player off the bench teams MUST account for.

Kings wanted 40 wins. He was doing this against Fox, considered one of the top young PGs in the league. Kings were the biggest surprise of the league nearly earning a winning season. Simons showed us he is , at worst, “NBA ready.” Simons was insanely efficient in that game and had only 2 turnovers and we won and it had huge playoff implications that could be responsible for who wins the championship this year. That win over the Kings completely threw a wrench into the playoff bracket.

Unbelievable. Put pressure on Warriors and they fold in playoffs. Down 3, Curry can’t do it. I’ve seen this before. Even Kevin Love can rattle the guy.
