I’d definitely like to keep Curry. Def better shooter than Simons. And sneaky good defender. But if we can’t keep Curry (Brooklyn, NYC, LAL, and LAC will have lots of money to spend), I’m fine with Simons getting 18 mpg.

Absolutely rein in the expectations from one NBA game.

A player who can get 37/9 in his first NBA start against ANYONE on an NBA roster....I can get excited about that and thing there is possibility for something in the not-too-distant future.

Also, while reigning in expectations after one game, we also - as your stats pointed out - must realize that Curry is not the linchpin to our success. He's a great shooter, yes. And Ed was a great rebounder. Curry's loss will be felt about as strongly as Ed's was.

I like Davis a lot, but I think shooting is a more important skill these days than rebounding. Curry's a role-player, but exactly the sort Portland needs more of. Competent defensively and an excellent floor-spacer on offense.

I basically agree with you; but we could also ask: When has Curry played 48 minutes without Lillard, McCollum or Turner on the court?

If Paul were still with us, I'd say have him send an elite mercenary team to free Enis' family and smuggle them out of the country, employing one of Paul's submarines, helicopters, and yachts, while Paul stands on the bow riffing on his Strat like the dude strapped to the front of the truck in the last Road Warrior movie.

I wonder if Jodie would be down with that?

They could strap @Orion Bailey to the bow for the guitar bit.

How much can we offer him in 2020?

We have to retain him at any cost, i fucking love him, he's a double-double machine and, no offense to Nurk, but it's so refreshing seeing a guy finishing easily at the rim thanks to his good hands and footwork.

Last year people screamed at Olshey for losing Ed Davis but honestly he wasn't that much of a loss, but Kanter.... MAN, RETAIN HIM OLSHEY PLEASEEEEEEE

if he takes a discount and signs a 1-year MLE this summer, then in 2020 we would be able to offer him about 40M/4y using his early bird exception, irrespective of our cap status. That's best-case scenario, IMO.

    wow, that seems fair!

I think he owe us his first big contract so i would be disappointed if he won't accept.

He'll also have the starting role given Nurk's injury.

C'mon Enes, we were made for each other!

I want to keep Kanter and Hood. Don’t really care that much about Curry.

I say we have enough youth this is a year that we may need to attach our first rounder to Evan or Meyers contract and dump salary in hopes of keeping a few of these veterans. Combination of Kanter and hood or Curry. Personally I like Curry really keeps floor spread teams can’t double off of him

Attach it to Turner. Do NOT attach it to Meyers. Meyers is finally a useful player (unlike Turner) and his contract really isn't that bad (also unlike Turner).

These playoffs have proven that Kanter is far more important than either Hood or Curry. And Hood is significantly better than Curry, but not by the same margin that Kanter is better than Hood. Curry can go get overpaid by some shit team to be a starter and lead them to a high lotto pick.

I'm assuming you mean the tax-MLE? but that's along the lines of what I was thinking, but I guess it's based upon whether a team can give a 2 year contract with a player option for the 2nd year?

if they can then Portland can give Kanter about 5.5M next year on a 2 year deal, with a player option for the 2nd season. That option would 'protect' Kanter in case he suffered a serious injury next season. He could then opt-out and sign a 1 year deal for 9.6M. Essentially, that could give him a 2-year/15.1M deal. And I guess they could repeat the process, meaning his 2nd deal could be a 2-year/20M contract with a player option for the 2nd season. Unless there's some CBA rule I don't know about?

for that matter, Portland could do the same 'process' with Hood and Curry. Hood would get 2 years at about 11.5M (4.17M + 7.29M); and Curry could get 9.22M (3.35M + 5.87M)

again, if all that is legal I'm not sure. I also have no clue if those salaries would be enough to keep those players. Seems like the Blazers are walking a 2-edged sword. The further Portland advances in the playoffs and the more those free agents are integral to Portland success, the more they'll command as free agents

and of course there is the issue of Aminu's free agency and how much tax Jody Allen is willing to pay next season

I think what he's saying is signing Kanter to the Tax-MLE for a 1 year deal (or with a 2nd year option like you said) and then in the summer of 2020 signing him to a 4-year deal with the starting salary of $9.6 million with the max allowable raises each year.

Depending on what happens though we might be under the cap in the summer of 2020 which could effect what exceptions we have and contracts we can offer.

It's still going to come down to whether or not Kanter wants to play for us next season for$5.3 million.

yeah, I saw his 4-year/40M idea. I was just thinking that shorter duration deals might be the best options for those free agents

also, after the Crabbe-ET-Meyers contracts, I'd hope the Blazers go for shorter duration deals themselves

Let's just say we make it to the WC or even the NBA finals, what then do you do with Enes? He has been pretty effective...

This may be the case. It's a tough situation. Nurk will be back and everyone loves him but will he be the same? Probably, but you never know. Kanter is lethal close to the rim, more so than Nurk. But Nurk's defense is great. Will Enes be happy on the bench subbing in for Nurk come next winter? He may say that now but if he sees his value skyrocket over the summer his agent will take care of the rest.

All you hear is that playoffs are all that matters and Enes is bringing it in the playoffs.

One thing working in our favor is the sheer number of Free Agents this summer. Hopefully that will suppress Kanter's value. And Neil needs to sell him on that back-up 6th man role on a championship contender. If we retain him we are one, maybe two pieces away from a Finals contender. Hell, if we had Nurk right now I'd give us an outside shot of making the Finals this year.

With all of that, and how much he apparently likes playing here, hopefully that'll be a enough to keep him. Nurk/Kanter can re-write the script on what it takes to win a championship in today's NBA.
