I’m pro-Stotts, yeah he has a lot of faults but he’s an upper level NBA coach. I mean, if we missed the playoffs and fired him this season hypothetically, he’d have been hired by the Lakers the minute Walton was fired.

I want to be considerate too and there are Anti Stotts threads already too. I just don't know the right keywords to search for them apparently.

Blazers beat a OKC team that had never won a Playoff series without Durant. Props!

Blazers beat a Denver team that almost everyone thought was one of the most overrated #2 seeds in quite some time and was in their first Playoff series as a current roster. Still more Props!

But because Dame buries a 37'er and Portland takes advantage of Denver choking away a 3-2 lead with Game 7 at home, doesn't really make me a huge Stotts believer. Seeing what he did (and didn't do) against a true contending team without their best player tells me a lot more about his coaching ability.

I would have LOVED if the Lakers hired Stotts. Dame would have 40+ points against them every game the way Stotts draws up his defense.

Anyone is free to bump it. I articulate the issues much better than I did back then, but I made that thread years ago and pointed out all the same issues that are routinely a problem, especially "He's too rigid in regards to defensive and doesn't make timely adjustments on that end".

And when we beat the Warriors, you’ll make excuses for them too (No Durant etc). Got it.

Also-Curry is Golden State’s best player.

You made excuses for the Warriors winning rings ("other teams had injuries") so...

Lets put that into perspective also though.
The Blazers did drift out to guard further out a few times. Once you watched Iggy get a wide open dunk because Curry diced them with a nice pass. The second time it was Loony with the dunk.
If you are gonna pull the big out of the middle you better make sure someone is holding down the fort so to speak. Harkless got caught with his pants down as well as Aminu on those two plays.

Bottom line is the Warriors are a very good team and Curry is a beast on offense. Klay was making them pay all night. 62 points between those two is hard to overcome. Gotta chose one of them and lock him down. Then make the other shoot shots with a hand in his face. The defensive effort was not there.
I really don't like Kanter and Aminu playing without eating or drinking. This whole fasting thing is going to wear them out. You can try to replace it at night but only to a point. Water is water. The longer this goes on the worse it will get. This series will be long over by June 4th. I never really thought about it with this team until this season and getting a deep run into the playoffs. These guys are almost unplayable in the NBA if you want to win a championship. I know Jabbar and Olajuwan were Muslim so maybe i am wrong here?

I really wish we would feed Kanter more in the post because besides his rebounding he is a net negative on the court if he isn’t touching the ball down low. May as well play Meyers if we are gonna play him out at the 3 point line so much.

Has any player scored 40+ on us this postseason? No.

Dame wouldn't do that and if he did, you'd have to question it big time.

First of all, I didn't make any excuses....even gave the Blazers props. I notice you didn't mention that part. Just stated what was reality.

As for excuses, how ironic. For someone who has made excuses for all the rings the Warriors have won. Laughable.

The Iggy dunk was because they didn't rotate correctly on the backside, not because they played up. If it was because they played up, we'd get dunks every possession. We didn't rotate well on two plays... Maybe that's because playing up wasn't the focus (for which I blame Stotts), and we might not be good enough to rotate correctly consistently enough, because we haven't done it enough, because we don't even practice it in regular season games even in times that we should (for which I also blame Stotts... I've called out Stotts for years about his rigid defense).

It takes a team effort to lock those guys down because of how many screens they run off of. Yes, you have to have a hand in their face, which is why you can't sag the guy guarding the screener. That's why it was such a terrible scheme, that the other team and the announcers were mocking...

What's funny is I've heard Stotts say he doesn't run multiple schemes during the regular season because he doesn't "want to confuse the guys" with different stuff.

The problem is, in the playoffs you have to be able to run different schemes, and then guys get extremely confused because they have no practice doing it.

Man, i'm not gonna argue. No reason. Game one vs the best team ever assembled. We are in the conference finals with our second best player out. All just my opinion. Had he made better adjustments, we lose by ten instead of 22. Coaches coach and players play. Coach sucked tonight. Players sucked worse.

So Stotts is implying his players aren't smart enough to figure that out or learn? Hmm....more excuses.

I agree. That is what my point was for the most part Harkless and Aminu got caught out of position.
Bring him out but you got to cover.
I like this statement but they did well enough against both Denver and OKC. The problem is now they are playing the Warriors. You got to be really really good. The Blazers might not be that good?
Sure we can blame the coach. But you have to admit the warriors are a good team. It's even worse with Durant.
