Stan Van Gundy usually wants control of at least a portion of basketball decisions. I think he also wears out his welcome. Udoka I think will be a really good coach.

The bottom line is how does the team improve for next year? You can rest assured that GSW will be better in whatever form they return in. Denver will be clearly better too. I feel like NO will draft another prospect that will never see any playing time, which is bullshit. Play the fucking rookie for shit sakes. How is Simons supposed to get better with no real minutes?

It will be a brutal season without Nurk to start and most likely no real roster changes. I fail to see how this team lands a starter in the off season. Maybe by the trade deadline they can ditch ET, who without question, will be waived to save money by a cash-strapped team. I don't honestly believe any other NBA team would sign ET for more than 2-3 million. I like the guy, but bidniz is bidniz.

Most coaches who have won in the playoffs and who have a ton of experience come with the ego. A strong front office will be key.

How do you figure? Many people feel they're about to lose a good portion of their current roster. And even if they retain some of those guys, the cost will put them over the cap. So they'll likely return with a worse roster.

Again, how do you figure? Pretty sure they're over the cap if they choose to re-sign Millsap. Even if they do bring him back, I think they're ripe for a back-slide. They seem like a classic example of a team that overachieved and won't have the same success without first making a few big moves (which they can't really do given their cap situation).

Sure. And they are always speaking and working with each other (GM and coach), but there has to be a clear line drawn on who calls the shots. I know SVG started his career only wanting to be the coach, period. That changed during his final years in Orlando, and then of course in Detroit he got full control. Not sure if he's willing to take a step back.

yeah I think that's false. Sure, they very well may lose Durant and Cousins. But Klay isn't going anywhere. And the Warriors just swept the Blazers without Durant and Cousins. In many ways, they are a harder tem to defend without Durant

but more than that is the Warriors owner is on record talking about spending 300M a year in salary and taxes, and the Warriors can afford it...which is kind of disgusting

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/patric...-warriors-afford-a-300m-payroll/#469b2e4b24fd

personally, I think people who are waiting for the Warriors to 'get worse' because of tax will be waiting a long time. And when the trio of Curry-Klay-Green are this good, all kinds of vets will be willing to play for the minimum. We saw that over the last 4 years

the Warriors have a great scouting department as well. Kevon Looney, Quinn Cook, and Alonzo Mckinnie are proof of that

they only have 90M guaranteed next season. So theoretically they could have close to 20M in cap-space. Now, that would be after waiving Millsap. I doubt they do that. They can work out a deal with him where they discard his current deal and give him 20M year for 2 years. They now have 110M in guaranteed salary. And then, try this on for size: they offer Rodney Hood the full-MLE. A 3-year/30M offer. And then, what if Michael Porter Jr is a good player?

the point being that the Nuggets could come back next season in tact, and could be adding a full-MLE level player and Porter. I don't see a back slide there

Nuggets are going nowhere. Murray, Harris in the backcourt, Jokic in the middle, that's a really good and very young core. And yes, what if Porter can play? They're in good shape. I'm curious what happens with the Clippers - what if they get a Kawhi? Yikes.

If the next GM pays a 'Turner' $70,000,000 and the coach decides the best way to open a playoff series is to leave the best shooter in the game wide open time after time.....

    .....then YES. :bgrin:

Adelman and Petrie were sort of a team in making the coaching better. In that they brought in the old offensive expert to assist Adelman. Pete Carril. Dr. Jack Ramsey also used Pete some. The part of his Princeton offense besides the 2 and 3 motion that I think would be good on this team is the high post center
and running the offense through the HP part of the time. Add a SF with a mid range and this team is ready to go as is.

I understand people think it's going to be tough to bring a similar team back next year but a really high risk of us bombing next year? C'mon man.

should have put into perspective. My floor for next year is first round loss. Is that risk worth it for Terry?

I don't think we'll "bomb" next year, I do think the CJ/Dame/Stotts combo knows they can't beat GS so their ceiling is being beaten in 4 (maybe 5) whenever they hit GS. Need to either accept and be ok with that being the ceiling or break it all up.

    Stotts on Lillard's injury

"I wasn't much aware of it," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said of Lillard's injury, denying he knew the health status of his most important player. "I didn't know how much it was bothering him until [Saturday]."

Meh. It's not his coaching tree. It's George Karl's. :dunno:

I think Jaynes is probably right and that Stotts will be given an extension by Olshey

so if you're really wanting Stotts fired, you should want Olshey fired as well. They are probably a package deal at this point.

I've refereed over 8800 hours of basketball. Probably watched well over 15K.

Ime Udoka is the smartest basketball player I've ever seen.
