That is a risk. Yeah it was stressful
finding the right deal. I turned down a Davis/Giannis swap because I was trying to be somewhat realistic. I like what I ultimately ended up with. Negotiations with Phoenix were crazy. Pinwheel is just as stubborn as I am, if not more. It was fun though.

You are probably right, but here is my thought process. It has been a while but for a few years in the early 90's Phoenix was a franchise that all the top free agents serious considered. Then Sarver bought the Suns from Jerry Colangelo in 2004 and slowly but surely destroyed the franchise. Similar to what happened to the Knicks, Bulls, and to a lesser extent the back stabbing dysfunctional Lakers.

The owner is a huge problem but the city, fans, and the weather (during the season) still could again make it a top destination. And I think that bringing in Monty Williams as the coach will help. (and of course me as GM) So right now their new fake mock team still has 3 young players in Ayton, Bridges and Oubre to build around. If AD can recruit just one star FA to show interest, in joining them, I think a decent GM can clear another 10 million to make it work.

Hate to say this but Phoenix is not Portland. Phoenix can once again draw star power just as much as a LA or NY. Why wouldn't one want to join AD , Bridges and Ayton in the Valley of the Sun? I think the moves I made could be somewhat realistic. The ball is in AD's court. He needs to recruit one guy. Once that happens the ball is in my court. Once I sit down with Sarver everything will be taken care of. For you "Justified" fans............."Its in the glass Robert........it's in the glass."

I still don't know what the fuck @Strenuus was thinking!?!?!?!?!?

At least with the Chris Paul trade I can kind of see the Magic being desperate to get a big star (even an aging one) instead of always trying to develop young guys even if it was a massive overpay but the Millsap trade makes NO sense strategically.

He didn't even get the 25th pick or Simons/Trent/Collins and on top of that DENVER was the one that gave up a young asset.

Help us figure this one out!

I thought they absorbed Skal with the Vonleh TPE and got a TPE in return for Swanigan? I read about that somewhere. Would've been foolish if they didn't. Let me double check.

If Portland didn't parlay that into a TPE in real life (because they could've), then I'm actually salty about it.

I don't think that was an option. All the TPE's are listed on the spreadsheets and Portland doesn't have one.

The Blazers still had the Vonleh TPE when they traded for Skal, and Skal fit into that TPE, and they could've created a new one for Swanigan.

If they didn't create another TPE, then that's terrible GM work by Olshey.

Actually I think they made a tweak to that rule or something about being in the luxury tax at the conclusion of the trade.

    Did they?

Shit. I've been thinking they had a TPE for Swanigan ever since.

At the time of the trade we had an open roster spot. It's possible he was trying to fill that spot with the Vonleh TPE right up until the deadline. We didn't have Kanter yet.

We made the Labissiere trade right before the deadline though. There was no time left so I doubt he expected to make another move with it. That possible rule you brought up is the only reason I can think of.

It could have been announced near the deadline. It could have possibly been done much earlier.

But I'm pretty sure the trade call didn't happen until pretty much at the deadline if that's when it was reported, and those type of things are specified in the trade call.

We have no idea when the trade call was made. It's just a guess.

If I'm the NBA I wouldn't allow a straight up trade of one for one with the money that close to generate a TPE.
