Nobody else wants it...amazing how many local ballots here have one choice and a write in box...people don't even run anymore it seems...so you're going to get some wack jobs with time on their hands

Also, why are police being sent to round up senators? Extreme and egregious overreach by the governor. Senators have walked out of hearings many times in the past, it is not unprecedented. Governors using the state police as their personal goon squad is definitely unprecedented.

    Nope, it is definitely precedented:

Walkouts in Oregon politics are rare but not unprecedented

SALEM, Ore. — For the second time this year, Oregon Senate Republicans have walked out in protest of legislation being pushed by Democrats, who have supermajorities in both the House and Senate.

The latest walkout, which began Thursday, is in protest of a cap-and-trade energy conservation bill aimed at dramatically lowering the state's greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

While walking out and using state police to find legislators is uncommon, it’s not unprecedented.

Republicans walked out of the Senate earlier this session in protest of a school funding tax package, denying the chamber enough lawmakers to continue with a vote. The sergeant-at-arms of the Oregon Senate was ordered to search the Capitol for Republican senators who were refusing to attend. The standoff lasted four days, until the governor struck a deal to table legislation on gun control and vaccine requirements.

In 2007, state troopers were sent to an Oregon State University baseball game to bring Republican senators, who walked out over a tax deal, back to the Capitol. A different senator reportedly attended the floor session, without police assistance, to provide quorum.

In 2001, House Democrats staged a five-day walkout to prevent a Republican maneuver to redraw state legislative districts. Brown, who was the Senate Democratic leader, supported the walkout.

In 1971, both House and Senate Democrats staged walkouts. Old newspaper clippings showed state police were ordered to arrest the absent senators. Police didn’t find them. The Democratic lawmakers returned to work days later.

The walkout tactic has also been used outside of Oregon, sometimes creating comical scenes. Abraham Lincoln once leapt out of a window in an attempt to deny a quorum when he was a lawmaker in Illinois.

In Washington D.C. three decades ago, U.S. Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Oregon) was carried feet first into the Senate chamber after Democrats ordered the arrest of Republican senators who were denying a quorum.

But aren’t you basically accusing someone of being racist if you think they would feel differently if the race was different?

It's the state senate. The house is controlled by Democrats. The senate seats are largely rural and so there are a disproportionate number of senators who are Republican. Right now it is 18 Democrats and 11 Republicans.
Elections should have consequences and since Democrats control the house, the senate and the governor's office they should be able to legislate what the people obviously want. So, why aren't the Republicans in their seats? Poor losers I'd say.

You are only a racist if you think a race is inferior because of their race.

I wouldn't say all Republicans are racist, that's for sure, but I may consider that here stateside most likely almost all racists are Republicans or non affiliated with politics at all......and I sure as hell don't understand it in 2019.....sad...the GOP has generally throughout modern history failed to attract votes from many, if any civil rights advocates.

Really? You gonna bring up some weird ass TX politics to explain your "both sides" argument?

What's happening in OR as we speak? Republicans teaming up with right wing militias to avoid doing their goddamn jobs...

Alright, well stop with the both sides stuff when in this instance it's Republicans acting stupid. This ain't democracy...

That's not what racism is. Racism requires a system of power for subjugation.

I can't deny someone housing, or good healthcare because their white..

Feel like I already said what I had to say on this subject in this thread in fact.

Got nothing else really to say.

That is... right wing terrorists. It's pretty clear that many of these "militia" groups have no idea of what a true militia is suppose to be used for.

Serious question, but what would you call hatred between two races that isn't necessarily racism? I use terms like bigotry but I'm not sure exactly where it falls.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. At the end of the day, I don't think the word matters. It's the feeling of hatred or superiority that's horrible and I wish people would stop.

It's not just a feeling. It's an overall belief and an espousing of that belief:

Like when Laura Ingraham says some shit like:

"white people won, get over it" Or tells Lebron to "shut up and dribble".

Like I said before, nobody tells Jews to "get over it" about the holocaust.

Also, instead of comparing the holocaust to slavery (which included murder, rape etc..) just know that that was OUR holocaust and there's no such thing as getting "over it"..
