Would it be worth mortgaging our future to make a run?

Supposedly Woj and Lowe were talking about having the pieces to go get a third star.

Would you be willing to move guys like Simons/Collins/Little to get a legit third star and try to make a run?

I'm honestly not sure if it's worth it at this point. I'm so thrilled about the future with Ant, Nas, and ZCO that it would have to be a substantially talented player to make it worthwhile. A Kawhi Leonard caliber player. I'm not sure if that player exists on the market right now.

 

For Anthony Davis or a legit all star that is near Dames level yes.

For Tobias Harris on a max contract no, his value doesn't exceed his contract cost by enough to warrant also giving up those pieces.

 

And there's just not that many guys in the league who check those boxes.

 

Who says that we need a 3rd star? This is just my thougts: Aminu and Harkless fucking suck, they just suck, okay, i never want to see them as a starter again and not together on the court. We need better wings, 3nD Role player wings who can shot the ball when opponent team make double team on Lillard, wings who can handle the Ball and make something good happen. We made the WCF without Nurkic, if he comes back and this team has those wings, we can beat any team

 

Agreed, if we got 2 role players who could hit an open shot and defend it would drastically improve the effectiveness of our team. Batum was a late draft pick, Wes was an undrafted free agent, Ime Udoka was basically playing in Rec leagues, that is the type of addition we need.

If we can't resign Hood or Kanter I'm all for blowing the tax MLE on whatever wing has upside. There are plenty of serviceable centers at the minimum.

 

Yeah, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi, Davis. They come up for trade about once a year but often the team insists on trading them out of conference, other times none of those level of players are available.

 

Would you not take that gamble on blake griffin?

Also, if Houston thinks they can convince Butler and Philly to sign and trade his way to Houston, why can't we?

Meh. I may be biased but I don't care for Gordon's game. And Capela is overrated. I'd rather want Simons, Little and/or Collins with Embiid and Simmons.

No I don't think I want to acquire Griffin on that massive contract. Maybe a case could be made to get him, but I don't think I'd give up multiple young assets or draft picks as well.

Maybe Neil inquired about Butler on a sign and trade, we don't know. For some reason Morey is parading his intention in the media, to me it seems more likely they know there is no chance Philly will agree to that trade but they want PR noise of trying to make a move or some type of other motive.

 

agree! Butler loves the outdoors, fishing & camping! This would be an amusement park for him. Plus he would stand a chance to become The Man as 1/2 option, here versus Houston.

 

I get the desire to improve the team chances at contending.

This roster did just get to the WCF, that opponent is now decimated by injuries next season, and all the key players on the Blazers were under 30 so there is a chance of significant internal development.

I'm all for making small additions to improve this team roster. Think of the Hood/Kanter addition last season. One or two bench players can make a massive improvement. But no I don't believe we need to mortgage the future, give up all our young assets, absorb some massive overpaid contract of a former all-star, or other drastic action.

Its the most success this franchise has had in 19 years but some fans seem to want to tear it apart as though this team needs to rebuild?

Simons/Collins/Little have not developed enough "potential" to land a third star in a trade.

And when they do have enough trade value, (we hope), we will not need a third star.

I believe quality depth will get this team further than a third star with weak depth.

 

The problem I have with all this "mortgaging" our future stuff is that most of those players we have now will most likley not even approach the level of those players that will "mortgage" our future.

As for the bad contract thing we have just have a window next summer and that's it. Nothing after that. You have to think if those 20M can make such a big difference or not. And it might not even be 10M, but lets go with best case scenario. I hope yes and I wouldn't make a move now if i was the GM, but before trade deadline 2020 if I saw we can really go for it yes I'd happily throw Zach out of the window in order to get Blake. After all what we play for is to finally contend for a championship. You cannot be eternally building and finally get to a point that Simons is ready, but Dame isn't good enough anymore.
