?

Given that Portland made the WCF's, how many 'Quality' FA's wil they sign?

  1. 2-3: Veterans want to play for a winner!

  2. 1: There just isn't enough money to go around and Bartelstein will have unsigned clients

  3. 0: Portland doesn't sign 'Quality' FA's.

He just comes off as an asshole, and i'm not sure Gortat is the best judge of this considering how inflammatory he is by his own account. Maybe I'm wrong.

Also, the one in Boston plays really selfish.

Man, if we could get Ariza for the tax MLE that would be so amazing. Move Harkless to the 4 which would probably get him better looks.

Good defense if the goal was to let Morris score a lot...

I really want an uptempo type player as our backup PG. However, there are a couple problems with that. The first is that a lot of those guys that may be available in our price range aren't good shooters so would we just have the same problem we did with ET or would the fact they would be on a much more team friendly contract make a difference? The second problem is that the player has to be established enough to play his style and have the 2nd unit conform to him (which I think they would) instead of conforming their game to the current style of play.

Rajon Rondo is the only one I can think of that could possibly be available for the Tax-MLE that would play his style and can teach guys to play that way too but he can't shoot so how will he be in Stotts' system?

Tim Frazier would probably be someone we could get for the minimum and would fit right back in considering his friendship with Dame still seems pretty good but he's not secure enough in the NBA to transform a 2nd unit on his own and would just try to not screw up rather than take command, plus he can't shoot either.

Derrick Rose is probably pretty similar to Rondo with worse defense and less explosiveness due to injuries. He's also more of a scorer than a passer which I think would stunt the growth of the young guys instead of enhance it.

Isaiah Thomas and Ish Smith are too small and I don't want to worry about mismatches on defense.

This might sound kind of crazy but what about Alex Caruso. LAL just extended a QO to him but if we signed him to an offer sheet right away I wonder if they would let him walk so they didn't tie up their max money. I don't know it probably wouldn't work out but he could also play off the ball as a spot up shooter next to Simons if they were trying to make Simons the primary ball handler in the 2nd unit.

He's restricted too though and unlike LAL I'd think Toronto would probably match wouldn't they?

I doubt it. Wouldn’t be surprised if they rescinded him.

He did shoot 36% from three last year on three attempts/game (and 33%, 38%, 37% the three years before that). He isn't the bricklayer he was when he first entered the league.

Because he’s not going to settle for the QO. He was making $3M in Europe. If he gets an offer close to that, I think he’ll take it. I guess I should’ve just said Toronto won’t match. Only way they “keep” him is if he stays in Europe imo.

If you're Toronto, why wouldn't you match an offer sheet?

Because I already have $40M+ invested in point guards.

De Colo can play off the ball too though. I don't know what Toronto would do but I don't get letting him walk if he's as good as you think he'll be.

Eh, he can play the 2 as well. Or he can be dealt for value later. Or Van Vleet could.

Unless he gets an exorbitant offer, it seems it'd be silly to just let him walk for nothing.

This is true, but I look at those percentages like I do Aminu's shooting where teams are sagging off and daring him to shoot. They are decent percentages but in my opinion all NBA guards should be able to shoot 35% from 3 if wide open and that doesn't necessarily make him a shooter now but definitely respectable.

I actually think Rondo would have a Marcus Camby type effect on this team. Camby came in and completely changed Aldridge into a more alert and aware offensive player because Camby was a master at getting him the ball differently than simply posting up on the left block every time. Andre Miller did it too. I'm picturing Rondo pushing the ball up the floor with guys like Simons, Layman?, Little, Skal, Collins, and even Meyers filling the lanes. I think those young guys would really benefit from that.

Rondo is another guy like Morris that doesn’t have a great reputation but is actually well respected by his peers as a teammate. I’d take him any day. We need more spice anyway.

In addition to him imparting a little knowledge to the younger players...we would also get 'Playoff' Rondo. That I would enjoy quite a bit.

Would you use the Tax-MLE on him? That's probably what it's gonna take to get in the ball park.

Yeah. I’d consider ourselves lucky to be able to land someone like rondo, Taj, or Markieff for that. I’m totally expecting us to overpay someone to come here instead (like a Hezonja) or to split it among meh players like last year.
