It was correct choice to keep Hood ahead of him. We managed to get Whiteside, who is a better defender than him by a large margin and equal rebounder. We probably would have struggled to get a better 3 than Hood via trade as there aren’t that many available 3s on the market.

Quick said Kanter was first priority and Kanter has known exactly what Portland could offer. So did hood. Hood wanted to stay and made up his mind first. Kanter did not. Blazers gave him 45 minutes. Quick called Kanter a drama queen

I might get some hate for this, but while I really liked Kanter and what he did while he was here I think his schtick could get old after a while (maybe Im wrong). I would've liked Hood and Kanter to stay, but if I had to choose one it would probably Hood. I really likes both guys. GL to Kanter. Glad we got Hood though.

Quick prefaced his statement about Kanter being a drama queen with “listen, I know the fans fell in love with him, but....”

Dwight Jaynes talked about this as well just now on Rip City Drive. Good call.

Why even bring it up? Was his pride hurt that we moved on to Hood so quickly?

    Actions. Speak. Louder. Than. Words.

Good luck with the Celtics. Guess who the great people of Boston are going to scapegoat first?

I think he wanted to shift some blame to the Blazers so he didn’t look disingenuous with all his prior praise of the city, fans and org

I don't know what he was hoping to get out of stalling though.

Kanter had a chance to take an offer from the Blazers but passed it up for the Celtics. Hope he is happy with his new team. Wonder if he will be available on the waiver wire again?

The only part I'm not sure about is whether Hood would've stayed if we could only pay him $4.16 million. I think for the rest this is how it likely went down:

Olshey offered Kanter the same deal he signed Hood with. Kanter said he wanted to see what other offers are out there first. Olshey told him that he will give him 45 minutes to decide but if he doesn't accept by then we can't risk losing out on someone else during that time. Up until this point Olshey didn't think Hood was coming back. To his surprise Hood's agent said he really wanted to stay and would take less to do so but didn't want to pass up other offers if we were using the MLE on Kanter.

Kanter still wanted to wait and see if any teams that missed out would offer more. Olshey told him he was running out of time and needed a decision in a few minutes. Kanter tried to stall him as long as possible but Olshey was like sorry we are going to re-sign Hood. He told Kanter he'd still like him back at the minimum and that offended Kanter so Olshey said he's gotta move on to trade possibilities and took advantage of Miami needing to clear salary.
