Correct me if i'm wrong but this was just a broken bone with no nerve/ligament/tendon damage. If thats the case then i'm pretty optimistic we will have him back 20 games into the season.
Yeah you're wrong to a point. Sure clean break. But compound fracture of both the Tibia and Fibula. Then there is the idea that this is a 7 foot man that weights 270 pounds. Also you are asking him to play at a professional level of basketball.
I don't think any of us are Doctors but a quick google search says it takes 3 to 6 months to heal from that. Nurkic is a bigger person so its definitely going to be towards the end of that healing time. If it takes six months that puts the heal time at the end of september, a month before the season starts. There is a lot we don't' know and all of these things vary so much but i'm going to remain optimistic that he will be playing sometime in December until it doesn't happen lol.
He only had a bone bruise that couldn't get any worse. No reason Nurkic shouldn't have played vs the warriors.
The joke is the Warriors team doctors pressured dudes to come back too quickly. Didn't turn out well for them...
Sure but don't get your hopes up. Most have him back in February and not being back full speed until next season. That is pretty much expected. I guess we will see right?
The rehab to get back to use his leg normally will probably be done by October. The rehab to be in shape, to play NBA basketball, to mentally over come the blocks that happen on any serious injury, that’ll take a few months, at least. I agree with you none of us AFAIK are doctors, I think we see Nurk at the end of the year, but dont see him back in doing Nurkic like things on a basketball court until 20-21. Id love to be wrong.
3-6 months for who? normal people? playing NBA BB is different than going to the store or walking in the park. Paul George had the same injury with no ligament or nerve damage and it took him a little over 8 months to return and he played badly for the last 6 games of the season when he did. Pretty sure he said somewhere that he probably came back to early but he really wanted to get some game time before the season ended. If that is an optimistic template then it would be sometime around Christmas. And PG is about 50-60 pounds lighter than Nurk I'd like to see him back in the first half of the season but it's more important for him to come back when he's really ready, and not a moment before. When Olshey said February, he might have been trying to hold down expectations. But he might have actually been honest and repeated what the doctors have told him
You guys need the knowhow of an actual doctor. No problem, I'm here to help. Dammit, wrong kind of doctor!!! #AnyoneNeedDiffEqsSolved?
Remember PG's injury. Got hurt Aug 1. Was seen walking around without a boot in the end of September. Dunked and shot around in practice late October. Started practicing regularly in March. Admitted he wasn't yet mentally 100% Played in his first game in April. Was shaky the last few weeks of the season, recovered fully over the subsequent summer and was back in October close to his old self to start the next season. That's about 8 months to return. About 14 months to truly recover to full strength. Nurk got hurt on March 26. Was walking around without a boot a month later. We saw him doing leg work last month. 8 months puts him at January. Full recovery even if we're not conservative is about March. This isn't unexpected. I want him back only when he's 100%. Whiteside is a fine replacement for the season.
Not sure what calendar you are using but March 26 would be 8 months at Nov 26th not January. Also, using George as an example isn't necessarily a good one as he did come back and play at the end of the season and if the season was continued it's hard to say how long it would have taken for him to be able to play at 100%. It could have taken another 10 games, a month or more. Nurkic has 4 more months recovery time to the season than George did.
Look Whitesides is playing for his career in Portland. He fucks up here and he will become a 5 mil a year 2-3 string center. It's his choice. He could be an all NBA defensive team contender and it's within his grasp. If it takes Nurk until Feb. to get back to the world-class player he was last year then so be it. A healthy Nurk will only improve: rim protecting (check++), free throws (check+), boards (check++), passing (check+), offense down low (check+), mid-range shot (check) outside threat (deficient), ball handling (deficient), plain bad-ass, tough, loyal hardworking mf'er (check +++). Imagine if he shoots 30% from 3. Brutal brutal guy. Get well Nurk!
I have no doubt that he won't comeback till he is 100% healthy as that's why Olshey went out and got Whiteside. Whether it's 8 months. 12 months or whenever I will just patiently wait for his return, but I'm not going to try and claim some sort of medical knowledge and we have no idea how his rehab is going to make a judgement one way or the other. Too many forum doctors that try and diagnose medical conditions from a computer.
both those breaks actually strengthened his bones after repairs...it's the nature of those injuries. The good thing about them is they happened when he is still really young and his bones will heal more quickly than someone my age with that injury
