No reasoning has been pubicly stated. But, a safe assumption is that the body is being exhumed to find out if it is truly Dillinger. There were a lot of questions surrounding the death of Dillinger and if the corpse shown in autopsy pictures, which did not resemble Dillinger was by some accounts too short, is really him. His Nephew will likely have DNA testing done to make clear once and for all if Dillinger was the man gunned down by law enforcement outside the Biograph Theatre on that hot July day in 1934. It seems one way or another an 85 year old mystery is about to be solved.
