    That's all they've ever been.

Jesus wasn't born in December. That whole holiday is a sham. Companies are earning some last part of the year revenue.

It's a Pagan holiday that the Catholic church appropriated so they could bring pagans into the fold.

Actually they haven't always been. I grew up in the era where almost every store was closed for major holidays so that most all could be home with their families. There was always somethings still open such as police, fire and airports but all retail malls and stores were mostly closed. I liked it much better then. Black Friday has become ridiculous with stores opening earlier and earlier.

I love seeing the American flag in people's yards and homes but somehow seeing it on a business looks commercial and out of place. It's as if a business were saying see, I'm one of the good guys while others might not be so good so spend your money here. A business ought to be a place where you do business, period. If a business owner wants to display our flag, fly one in the yard.

I am not huge into celebrating Holidays, I have always enjoyed Christmas and Thanksgiving because of personal reasons mainly because that time of year my extended family usually got along and it was nice to be around them. Now that I have kids, I enjoy spending holidays with them, I started College as a history major and the history of holidays, pagan, religious, cultural, whatever is interesting. With only 365 days a year there are many holidays that land on the same day, many holidays that have incorporated many different celebrations into one, I like teaching my kids about that stuff.

I don't like Corporate greed trying to brainwash my kids that if I don't buy them the coolest crap when Christmas comes around I don't love them. Thankfully there's a lot I can control, but corporations really have no shame with some of it.

I like Thanksgiving because I love crispy brown turkey skin and I love fellowship with family and other friends who might be in attendance. I also enjoy sports on TV on that day.
I love Christmas mostly because of the fellowship that I get on that day. I also love the brown, crispy turkey skin that I eat on that day. And I enjoy the NBA and bowl games that I watch on that day. I enjoy the sparkling lights on the Christmas tree and the packages under the tree. We also play a family game of giving gifts anonymously which we take turns receiving. The receiver has the option of accepting the gift or stealing someone else's gift. The gifts are limited in value so it's mostly fun with no real greed involved. I use to love getting gifts when I was younger but now I enjoy giving them.
Snacks are great on those days.
Nope, nothing wrong with Thanksgiving or Christmas for me. By the way, all of my difficult relatives have passed away which makes the holidays much easier. Having difficult relatives can make holidays a nightmare.

This is stupid. Leave Halloween alone. 10/31st is etched as a creepy date.

I think there is some history behind it religiously. Isn't it some pagan holiday?

Haloween, then the next day is All Saints Day then All Souls Day.

    Wrong.

The scheduled date of Christmas alone was for capital gain.

The Catholic church wanted to avoid a holy war. Hence Dec 25th.

    Most holidays are. Christmas mainly.

Christians weren't putting Yule Trees in their houses...

This is in fact just a theory, it might be correct but around 300 AD Christians in Rome decided to celebrate Christ’s birth on December 25th and it did align Date wise with the Roman’s celebration of Saturn so it’s theorized that the date was chosen to make Romans accept the Holiday. In Catholic and Christian circles centuries would go by before puritans would celebrate Christmas as one of their major holidays. Epiphany and Easter were the two Major holidays for Christians until the last couple 2-300 years. Christmas was not a major Christian holiday until recently and its spread and popularity was pushed by corporations especially in the last 150 years or so.

All the reasons for the date being chosen though are really just theories as AFAIK there was not any historical writings / evidence to do more than theorize.

It's not a theory. Do some research on the Yule Tree.

Why do we cut down trees and put them in our homes to "celebrate Christ"?

That's certainly not part of Christianity.

Of course Yule tree and all of that is different, I was talking about the date Christmas was chosen to be on. I have done my “research”, there only theories as to why the date was chosen, and I said that could be the correct one.
