Not to be too on topic, I know where I'm at. Isn't this part of the problem with the "news" cycle and the media... Instead of telling us the truth, we have these massive "news" machines conjuring up what's the best strategy to create the narrative that they and the side they've chosen to root for will like. The entire notion of the "free press" and what they were supposed to do was to tell the people the truth. Instead, they've turned into these machines of half-truths and deceit. I realize Fox isn't the only one that does this but, I am glad the internet can help us see through some of the lies that our "news" sources are giving us. Really their entire argument is how do we do damage control for ourselves. That to me is rediculous.
I think Fox News decided the the news biz was heavily slanted left (which it is) and came out with their "Fair & Balance" mantra. An "equal time" kind of approach. Early on, it seems it was just Shephard Smith running the show. He's more or less just a newscaster. Then all the opinion folks started showing up (and leaving, as well.) That's when Fox really began to dig in their collective heels on the right. And they've never looked back. While he's probably right, I still don't like the idea of Trump bashing CNN and the "fake news!" as much as he does. Not. Helping.
Well, then there are over 100 locations that need to change their name as they are located in 28 states as well as Japan. Just like there were several Original Taco Houses in Portland before they closed up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Original_Pancake_House
Mikes makes a good Burger. Years back on McLoughlin there was Lew's Coney Island which also had great burgers. Nothing like eating the fear of the cow!
my oldest daughter worked at Roake's on 82nd when she was going to high school. She also worked at Farrell's before that and I went to high school with the owners daughter in which a Sundae was named after her. I believe Roake's is still in business on Columbia Blvd and McLoughlin. No more Farrell's though as that was a great place to go to.
Roakes is still on Mcloughlin and they still came a good coney and burger. Yeah Farrell's was super, took my kids there for bday's.
The best several decades ago was Gene and Joe's on Hwy 99 E near Milwaukee. They got bought out by Tebo's and went way down hill. Then there was the Carnival at the base of pill hill. Then they started to go downhill and finally out of business. Now, the building is torn down and last I looked was a vacant lot. Edit: https://www.stumptownblogger.com/2016/09/gene-joes.html
I used to go to Farrell's on West Burnside when I was in late grade school thru early high school for ice cream treats. Truly the best ice cream parlor I've ever been in.
If you want a good Coney Island try Nick's Famous Coney Island. His son was a Blazer ticket partner of mine years and years ago. His son is probably the owner now.
The only one in Portland that I know of is the original one on Barbur Blvd. not too far from the Burlingame Fred Meyer, maybe two or three miles West on Barbur. Our family used to go there every Sunday after church back in the 50s shortly after they opened for the first time. I've been to the one in Cleveland and it was just as good.
We use to actually have sales meetings at Nicks Coney Island. It was actually more coney eating, beer drinking and bullshitting than a meeting though and always around the holidays. The new one just doesn't have the same cool grubby atmosphere. Frank was a great guy with all sorts of stories and his big Cadillac always parked in the primo spot in front. I have walked by the hew one but have never tried it out. It just looks too sanitary, lol.
We have a Mod's pizza out here in the Lake Grove district of Lake Oswego. It's in a shopping center just of Kruse Way which is an extension of Hwy 217.
I did enjoy Jesse Waters take on why we shouldn’t have Medicare for all...It’s because he likes his plan. “I walk into the doctors office, get checked out, give them $5 and I’m on my way” Lol, this man has never opened a hospital bill in his life, clearly. Can I get on this plan please?
