Take Griffin out of that trade and Detroit does it in a heartbeat. Actually, make that take Griffin AND Whiteside out.
I think when Nurk comes back before the trade deadline, Olshey will look to move Whiteside for Love, especially if Love has fully recovered from last year's toe injury.
My father takes Bleacher Report as gospel. I've never understood why. A few years ago I got in an argument with one of their writers.....major asshole. He took every opportunity to insult people who disagreed with him. I expected far better from the writer of a major sports blog. In as far as the trade goes, I'd do it, but my biggest concerns is what we would do at Center. Could we get by with lesser talent at that position? Brown, perhaps? Or do we run Gasol into the coffin? If we went with Brown, could the talent surrounding him: Dame, CJ, Griffin, Baze/Tolliver, be enough to make him better? Much like McGee on the Warriors.
I'm just saying its another body with 5 more fouls. Yes we may suck, but we will have another center.
I know it's Bleacher report...but Pacers are supposedly shopping baby Sabonis. Dear god what I would give to have him on this team! He would fit this team sooo freakin well.
I wouldn't trade for Griffin unless it looks like the final piece to us winning a title. His body is a mess and about to break for the last time. Think Amare in NY.
Amare was basically Dwight Howard in my opinion. Great Athlete when he was young, never evolved his game past that.
Whiteside has attitude problems and is going to have to compete for time with Nurk, someone who also had attitude problems. Both are going to feel entitled to the starting role if they are playing well. I have a bad feeling that the Whiteside trade is going to be what ruins this season. It seems like a makeshift move to keep us afloat I don’t expect him to have the efficiency people are predicting on offense or defense. The one place I think he will help us is rebounding, and we could have solved that by resigning Kanter.
setting aside the cap implications, the 'best' deal for Griffin, from Portland's POV would be to try and keep Zach out of the deal and go for something like Whiteside + Little + Trent + a couple of 1sts yeah, I know people will squawk about more than one 1st and Little but we're talking about a 30 year old 6 time all-star that made 3rd team all-NBA last season, and who averaged 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
