The long wait for news is because they have already cut Zach's arm off with a bone saw, and just aren't sure how to tell us yet. Facts.

If this is Zachs first dislocation he definitely has a torn labrum. It’s the ligament that connects the shoulder joint to the arm. The only question is how severe. They have had the MRI results for half a week already, and it probably shows a tear. The second opinion is most likely trying to determine how bad it is and whether or not surgery is needed.

I disagree. They're probably trying to determine if he needs surgery or not. If he needed surgery they would've done the surgery already and wouldn't be waiting.

    Why's it "definite"?

Well for one you can’t really dislocate your shoulder without tearing your labrum to some degree.

That's the most ridiculous "guess" in this thread.

We just saw Nurk snap his leg in half. There is no "best way to tell the fans". They'd have to tell us at some point anyway. And they'd do as they've always done, which is state his injury and recovery timeline.

It's not unheard of though, and everything I've read is that a dislocated shoulder is likely to "damage" the labrum in some way, not definitively tear it.

It also might've only been a partial dislocation, which increases the likelihood the labrum is fine.

from what I’ve read, If it’s a full dislocation, there’s an extremely high chance the labrum is injured. If it’s a partial dislocation, there’s a chance it’s not injured. Fairly sure Zachs was a full dislocation although I forgot where I saw that.

even if it’s torn, surgery many not be required. Which is probably what they’re trying to determine right now. It depends on how severely it’s torn.

The shoulder "went back in pretty cleanly" which means it may have only been partial or may not have damaged his labrum. Usually a labrum tear includes "catching of the shoulder", but Collins said his range of motion was pretty good after the game, which says to me that there's a definite chance the labrum isn't torn and that the only reason his range of motion wasn't completely fine was because of swelling in his shoulder.

I haven't seen anything like that. I'm just reading up and it's not impossible to fully dislocated your shoulder without damaging the labrum.

I'm assuming there's some damage though, and they're trying to determine the extent and the best course of action moving forward.

I’m not saying it’s not possible. None of us are doctors here. But just from the information we have:

An MRI has been done, and it would show if there’s ligament damage.

if there’s no ligament damage it’s just a pain tolerance thing, which they should announce him as day to day or out for a few weeks.

it’s been 4 days since the MRI and no word - that leads me to believe the MRI has revealed at least some ligament damage.

yes they’re trying to determine the best course of action. Either way he’s looking to be out for awhile and we’re definitely not in the most optimal scenario.

Well that is pretty much what they have said. There is obviously a shoulder injury and "...they will continue to monitor it to determine the extent of the injury". I'm with ya on this.

For the record, I fully dislocated my shoulder playing football back in college. It went back in clean and was sore for about a month, no tears at all or any other damage. That was about 17-18 years ago and I haven't had a single issue with it since. I may have just gotten super lucky though.
