NEW YORK — Two of President Trump’s senior advisers undermined and ignored him in what they claimed was an effort to “save the country,” former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley claims in a new memoir.

Former secretary of state Rex Tillerson and former White House chief of staff John F. Kelly sought to recruit her to work around and subvert Trump, but she refused, Haley writes in a new book, “With All Due Respect,” which also describes Tillerson as “exhausting” and imperious and Kelly as suspicious of her access to Trump.

“Kelly and Tillerson confided in me that when they resisted the president, they weren’t being insubordinate, they were trying to save the country,” Haley wrote.

“It was their decisions, not the president’s, that were in the best interests of America, they said. The president didn’t know what he was doing,” Haley wrote of the views the two men held.

Tillerson also told her that people would die if Trump was unchecked, Haley wrote.

Tillerson did not respond to a request for comment. Kelly declined to comment in detail, but said that if providing the president “with the best and most open, legal and ethical staffing advice from across the [government] so he could make an informed decision is ‘working against Trump,’ then guilty as charged.”

In the book, which was obtained by The Washington Post ahead of its release Tuesday, Haley offers only glancing critiques of her former boss, saying she and others who worked for Trump had an obligation to carry out his wishes since he was the one elected by voters.

The former South Carolina governor, widely viewed by Republicans as a top potential presidential candidate in 2024, has repeatedly sought to minimize differences with Trump while distancing herself from his excesses. Haley, 47, writes that she backed most of the foreign policy decisions by Trump that others tried to block or slow down, including withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate accord and the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Here's what is going to happen...

Pence is going to get ill or come out of the closet or something but he will resign or not be on the ticket again.

    Trump/Haley 2020

Her on the ticket just might be enough to get Trump re-elected.

Also, if Trump is removed from office or has to resign Haley can pardon him.

Pence is up to his cotton top with the Ukraine stuff just as much as Trump. So if Trump goes, he goes. That would give us Pelosi as President. Haley as VP would prevent that.

I can't see Trumpets supporting a female VP who is not white and child of immigrants.

But she is certainly correct that Trump doesn't know what he's doing.

Ain't gonna happen. If Pence goes then his base built on the religious right goes.
Besides, I just don't see Trump having a ghost of a chance in a fair election even with Pence.
Pelosi will never ever be President and I've got the Mitch McConnell to prove it.

Unless a better Dem candidate emerges, Trump will win again. None of the current candidates have a chance.

Not according to many who have voiced their opinion as trump is lagging behind the most likely candidates that will emerge out of the democratic party and it's likely to even get worse as this investigation goes public. Don the con's days appear to be numbered.

No way would I vote for Haley as she is tied to trump to closely. I want the country I live in as far removed from trump as possible.

She may be associated with Trump because he nominated her for the UN post but I don't see her as "tied" to Trump. She strikes me as a VERY intelligent individual.

except she backed trump constantly. Sure she's intelligent, but that in itself doesn't make a good president. I want this administration purged.

I guess she's bright for a Republican, but I'm not sure that's considered a positive quality by Republican voters.
She is quite good at self-promotion though.

    1. "Constantly"?...that's a stretch.

    2. Didn't say intelligence was the only prerequisite, but it's a damn good start.

    3. Well, I wanna have sex with Jessica Alba.

If someone is running for POTUS, they'd better be good at self-promotion. Can't think of any President who was not.

    Well yeah, who doesn't, lol.

as for the rest, it's just a difference of opinions. I think all the democratic candidates are intelligent and I am sure there are some republicans out there that would make decent candidates that are intelligent as well.. The only one I would eliminate on the intelligent level would be trump.
