Good point. But what do people use this forum for? To prove something? I sure don’t. I come on here to have fun. I’m not here to talk a player’s efficiency numbers. I’m not on here to prove what I know to strangers. I grew up playing this game at the parks with future NBA players and going home and watching it whenever it was on TV. I’m a fan of the game. I don’t have time to study the salary cap. On the other hand, if somebody is a basketball junkie and comes on here everyday to prove something, more power to them. I don’t use the internet for that type of thing. I didn’t mean to have this thread be about me, I was interested more in what makes somebody knowledgeable of the game. I just had dinner with an NBA scout, an announcer, a capologist, an coach...... we talked all aspects of the game for 3 hours....... I think I handled myself pretty well. I’d rather prove my knowledge face to face than with a keyboard.
I wanted to understand how people acquire knowledge of the game, and what makes somebody more knowledgeable than somebody else. Not sure why this would confuse you.
WHich brings up and interesting point. Does a fans “FANATICISM” interfere with their knowledge of the game? Their hate for another team change their opinion?
This thread might not be about you but that sure is a great post. Blazers are entertainment. S2 is entertainment. I come here to hang and laugh. I work at work.
Its just fun to talk basketball. Id talk basketball with just about anyone. Thats what I use this place for at least originally but the longer Im here I have gotten more talkative on other subjects. I work with a bunch of engineers, who have 0 interest in sports, so I dont have the same options as you do because of our jobs. Though if the Blazers want to invite me to their next road trip that sounds fun lol.
Absolutely. Take Russell Westbrook for example. Portland fans hate the dude so much a Triple Double is a bad game.
To some extent, I hate, hate, hate watching a few guys play who really are great basketball players but I just hate their games. I can admit for the most part that they’re good players though.
Russ ive always had a weird love / hate thing going on with his game... He’s one part amazing, its rare to see an athlete play with that much energy basically every night. The dude is pure fire. On the other hand, he can be like the brickMaster4000 sometimes, and his fire can and is used against him way too often. Its like the rage turns on and he just becomes his own worst enemy.
Exactly my point. I found out in like, I don’t what year, actually it was at the Blazers NBA Draft party the year we took Martell Webster, that there was a place on the internet that you could chat about the Blazers. So that night I joined BBF. I was blown away that you could just sit there and talk hoops with strangers. Been Hooked ever since. This is the only site I visit. There were arguments back then, but now it seems like instead of just having a difference of opinion, so many are outright trying to disprove each other. And as far as it being entertainment, that’s exactly what I use this place for. I go by the eye test. Never look at stats. Haven’t looked at the standings honestly once this season. Guy said I post nothing but twitter and Instagram links on here like I wasn’t supposed to. Didn’t realize that was looked down upon. I actually just wanted to see what peoples opinions were on how you measure and prove knowledge.
Were all just a bunch of basketball geeks with opinions. At the end of the day, from the bottom of the BBIQ to the top, its just opinions. Its why you see so many NBA coaches with different philosophies, theres no perfect plays that scores every time. Theres no perfect mind that gets it right every time. Im not sure what the litmus test is for BBIQ or how to judge it.
I have not looked yet either. Could not tell you what place they are in? I do know their record is 5-8 right now from watching games. i will start looking at standings in march.
I don't think there's any doubt when you watch one team more than the rest, you're going to lose some perspective. I think there is a chunk of people who watch the Blazers more than all other 29 teams combined, which would make it hard to evaluate how the roster compares to other teams. Having said that, there is NOTHING wrong with someone who loves the Blazers, doesn't have the time to watch many other NBA games, and has strong opinons.
