Yeah, except I didn’t say it’s that simple. But what you don’t do for example, is pay $70 million for a player with 8 straight years of significantly negative BPM. That would be dumb.

I'd love a nickel for everyone I know who's left that place and not looked back..I'm curious why you think Neil wants to live there...the guy grew up in New York City....biggest market on the planet and didn't move back there either...he travels the world for a living...coming home to Oregon is underrated...last I checked there were like 14 fires burning up the gated communities around LA.....el prez has been doing his sage cleansing of the city would be my guess....that'd take a mountain of sage!
Not sure what interview it was, but he talked about the Cap implications and Plumlee's ending contract along with getting the 1st round pick much more than he talked about Nurkic. What he did talk about Nurk, it was the standard, he's had some injuries, we think he has potential, etc, line which was of course true. But he wasn't touting Nurk near as much as the pick/cap issues. It was probably above dumpster diving, but certainly not a swing for the fences at least the way he was talking about it at the time. It certainly worked out in Portland's favor but has yet to get the Blazers to contender status. To be fair, Nurk has been injured in some manner every season but one in his NBA career. He obviously has talent but is having trouble staying healthy.

Not sure who said it wasn't a Home Run. For what they gave up, Portland definitely won that trade. But you can hit a Home Run without swinging for the fences and that was the premise of the original point that was being resonded to. Occassionally, you just run into one. That's great for Portland!
They said that about Chauncey Billups for most of his early career when he was trade fodder...not everyone is a quick study...especially when you have a new situation...all these early awkward turnovers are from hesitation...passing isn't second nature or flow yet across the entire roster...it's why we're shooting mostly jumpers
I explained what it was...in my view. Portland was risking almost nothing and trading an easy replaceable player. They weren't going to be able to afford Plumlee's new contract, and that was due in 5 months. Olshey's motivation was to find a big man that had a year longer on his rookie deal than Plumlee did (Olshey even said that himself). If Denver hadn't added a 1st at the last minute, it's very likely the Blazers would have traded for Okafor. Philly thought it was a done deal and held Okafor out of games till Portland backed out...that's how close it was. The main motivation for the trade was cap-considerations the trade worked out great for the Blazers, but that was probably more accident than intention. None of those factors fit a swing-for-the-fences, but of course we could have different ideas what that phrase mean; to me, it's about the swing, not the result unfortunately, it hasn't been a home-run either because Nurkic has had trouble staying healthy. He's had a significant injury in 3 of the last 4 seasons and has only been healthy in 4 of Portland's 24 playoff games. In the last 4.2 seasons, he's missed 120 games...and counting. That's a big worry, IMO
Then how do you explain the last 4 years? We've been shooting mostly jumpers since Stotts has been hired. During that time, passing has never been second nature either. Granted, this year the problems have been exacerbated...but it's not like they are NEW issues to the team.
Mason Plumlee was a great passer for us....Nurk is a great passer....Dame is a decent passer if he's targeting a guy who can corral the ball...CJ has improved his passing but we have been a 3pt shooting or pick and roll team for that stretch...this season the pick and roll game is ugly with turnovers..chemistry. Melo made a couple really good passes last game too...that all said, we iso too much and dribble too much often ...I disagree about second nature....our last 4 years before this change we've had flow and chemistry..we haven't had a stellar passing pt guard since Andre Miller...I'll say this though....we suck at alley oop passes
I don't think that's a fair assessment of Olshey's move.....sounds like you have a low opinion of Olshey's ability to evaluate talent to me..you're not alone in that view but I'm not in that camp at all.
that's not it....it's because according to the 'reporting', Olshey was really close to trading for Okafor instead of Nurkic. He was trading a big, for a big, and the motivation was cap & tax....which Olshey said himself. Common sense would suggest that the two things that compelled that trade was Plumlee's contract and Denver's 1st round pick
Olshey made a good decision....it's that simple no matter how many due diligence scenarios he considered. For that he should get credit....not because he almost considered other deals...I'm sure he considered dozens of deals...I chalk it up to Andre Miller for Raymond Felton karma ..they owed us
