Agreed....If Denver doesn't throw in the pick, Olshey was ready to take Okafor. Nice that Denver helped maked the decision a no-brainer for Neil. But in terms of the 'player', in a straight player for player swap, it was going to be Okafor.

according to reporting? Sure, contracts had SOMEWHAT to do with it, but as Olshey explained they wanted to get younger, bigger and stronger in the post and Nurkic fit that bill. The savings was only a one year savings as Nurkic the following year after Plumlee was signed to a new contract. Don;t let your hate for Olshey cloud the complete picture.

I think the difference is, Olshey swung for a single but lucked out with a homerun. I think more fans want to see more homerun swings than single swings.... regardless of the result. (obviously everyone WANTS the result to be positive)

Chauncey arrived in Detroit aged 26, so it was indeed fairly remarkable that he changed into a Finals MVP. But if 26 is a late bloomer, what would have to be true for Bazemore, who is *30*.

I never said it didn't end up a good trade. Nobody has said that. That isn't what we were debating

I think we can all agree that when it comes to trades, Olshey's wheelhouse as a Blazer GM, has always been to be first thru the door when another team has been looking to just dump a player and wave bye bye. To pay a little or almost nothing and see what's in the cards

    - Diebler for Sasha Pavlovich and a couple of 2nd's
    - TPE for Eric Maynor
    - three 2nds* for Robin Lopez
    - four 2nds* for TRob
    - Steve Blake for Plumlee
    - space for Harkless
    - cash for Brian Roberts
    - cash for Napier
    - Plumlee for Nurkic
    - Stauskas and Baldwin for Hood
    - Swanigan for Skal
    - Turner for Bazemore
    - Mo and Meyers for Whiteside

this is Olshey's forte. In every one of those situations, the other team was just looking to dump a player and move on (and Olshey has been johnny-on-the-spot with acceptable bait). Out of that list there were 3 fairly meaningless deals (Pavlovich-Maynor-Roberts), one bust (TRob), and probably 6 that rate from pretty -good to very-good (Lopez-Plumlee(incoming)-Harkless-Nurkic-Hood-Skal)

that's a damn good performance and none of those trades came close to the swing-for-the-fences variety. Where Olshey has stumbled, trade-wise, is when he's moved up in class and dealt with GM's actually requiring a return for asset(s). Like in the trade for Afflalo, or the trade of Batum. Which is a little bit of a scary thought when thinking about the Blazers making a big move this season

We didn't even have a GM in place for some of those trades...Sasha Pavlovich was either Chad Buchannon or Larry Miller. Olshey has played the card he's dealt in my view...finding high draft picks on their second year who weren't playing on bad teams....Mo Harkless...Paul Allen was also micro managing a lot of these early Olshey deals....hindsight..we've had hits and misses but look at the Lakers and Knicks over that time period with huge pockets and perks...up until now we were beating both those storied franchises

    nope, you're wrong again

Pavlovich was an Olshey deal. It happened 7 weeks after Olshey was hired. Pavlovich was part of the 1st bench Olshey cheap-screwed together after his max offer to Roy Hibbert was matched by the Pacers (thank god). You remember that bench don't you? it was he worst bench in Blazer history and historically bad

not one bit of that has anything to do with what I was originally saying. I've already clarified 3 times the narrow argument I was making that started this incessant back and forth, and in response, you keep widening the discussion, and I participated, but enough of that.

Bringing it back, for the final time, to what I was saying: to me, a swing-for-the-fences deal is when a team actually risks something substantial for the chance at an even higher reward. When they trade a core player or a high lottery pick. When they relinquish an asset they value highly. As the Blazer GM, Olshey has never done that as far as I can recall

Sorry you are not enjoying engaging in the topic with me....choices...I don't engage in reply mode unless it interests me. I was enjoying the topic whether we agree or not and I don't have a problem with "widening any discussions"....I'm retired...and in recovery so lot of time on my hands.

lucky? …I'm hoping you have intended humor here or else you might want to rethink your last post concerning cyber'slapping anybody.....you should be so fucking "lucky" to have a life threatening heart condition....tells me something about you as a person I'd have never guessed. Unlike some folks, I don't need to be right about all my basketball takes...I just try to enjoy the conversations.

I apologize. I was just trying to make a joke by using the ' punctuations around lucky and didn't mean anything close to how you took it. My bad

thanks....I can enjoy humor...I've just experienced a major setback that could be life threatening so it's a sensitive subject with me...I'm just a fan, not an analytics guy or stat guy...I don't post with realGM sheets to reference...usually my posts are conversational and just reflect my observations from the cheap seats. It's all good...in my life I've admitted I was wrong BOTH times!
