That was simply one game and one players trajectory is going up while the other is going down. One is 25 and the other soon to be 35. If you were Toronto, would you trade Gasol for Embid?
Don't think he was suggesting Gasol was better than Embiid so much as saying that Toronto needs Gasol to defend Embiid.
Yeah exactly, his shooting percentages have been down but he's still a big reason for their success. I don't get what the point of him turning my post into a theoretical trade that the 76ers would never do.
and my question was based on who would be better for the team now and for the future thus the reason why Toronto would consider it. hjock was adamant that NO way Gasol is traded. Nobody in this forum knows what Toronto is willing to do. Would you trade Gasol for Embid?
Because you simply don't know what Toronto's mindset is or any team for that matter. You constantly act like you know what all teams seem to be thinking and are willing to do or not to do.
That's like someone saying CJ won't be traded and then someone calling that out by saying so the Blazers wouldn't trade CJ for Luka Doncic? There's no point in a discussion if you're not going to ask a realistic question and then hide behind the fact that I don't know what Toronto will do.
When we're talking in the context of a hypothetical trade by the Blazers for Gasol, putting Embiid on the other side of that equation doesn't really make sense. More relevant would be the question of whether someone would trade Whiteside for Gasol (or vice versa). I think it's fair to assume that given Toronto's need to compete with Philly, coupled with Gasol's and Whiteside's historical performances when matched up with Embiid, that Toronto would have no interest in that deal.
I'm not hiding as I am right here. You stated as if it is FACT that Toronto would not trade Gasol period. You brought Embid into the discussion, not me so I used him in a hypothetical. I learned my lesson several years back as I believe it was hoopguru that suggested Blake and Outlaw for Marcus Camby and several posters including me and I believe you as well said no way. Well, it happened.
What's not logical on your end is not knowing what else Portland might also include in such a deal. I explained why I put Embid into a hypothetical as that was hjock bringing him into the discussion. One thing that hasn't been factored is that Gasol is in the last year of his contract. Do they re-sign him and get locked in for several years on an aging center? or do they look to capitalize and try and get something out of him that can help them going forward? Toronto could end up not winning the championship and not being able to re-sign Gasol and then not getting anything for him as he walks for nothing. I'm just pointing out that their are many factors that go into a teams decision as to what direction they decide to go.
The 76ers would never offer Embiid for Gasol so your whole post is completely irrelevant. Maybe try to have a logical discussion for once instead of presenting an unrealistic question to try and start an argument. I'm sorry that applying common sense to my posts makes you think I'm stating a fact and can never be wrong.
oh hoopy, your arrogance never ceases to amaze me. Take Embid out of the post then if it bothers you so much. You simply don't know what Toronto is willing to do or not do has been my point all along and you continually dodge around that premise. I have offered up some reasons and all you have done is try and argue about Embid not being offered by Philly. Have a nice day.
Ha, typical Cup. I've been right way more than I've been wrong. I never claimed to always be right with my OPINION that you are trying to turn into a FACT. The funniest thing about this is before the season I thought Toronto was going to struggle this season (which I was wrong about) and possibly trade guys like Gasol and rebuild around Siakam. Then they extended Lowry indicating TO ME that they weren't going to rebuild otherwise they would've handed the PG keys to VanVleet. In my post that you quoted I specifically said they weren't going to trade guys like that if they remained among the better teams in the East. That's not an absolute statement buddy.
I used to think that Kawhi Leonard is better than Meyers Leonard. But Cup would say, why would a team take Meyers for Kawhi? So I guess I was wrong.
