Once you are picking after top 10 it's all a crap shoot. Even a number one is a crap shoot. At least for Portland. Certainly 4-10.

Tanking on its surface sounds like it has merit, but does it?

In the examples of it sort of working, say Philly they still haven't won anything and spent over a decade being relatively pathetic, their best player has a lot of injury issues, and drafted quite a few guys really high that didn't work out.

Theres cases like Phoenix where they seem to have a star in booker but that hasnt amounted to much. We dont know what Ayton will do but they have a plethora of bad draft choices too.

The points been made that Portland cant get FA’s, and thats historically been true, but outside of major markets the only places that have a track record of getting FA’s are teams who have a Star, and are winning, or have won. Like Miami, or GS. Both fairly big markets or in Miami’s case nice beaches, but Portlands best chance to land a FA of much stature is winning, and having a star (like Dame for instance).

I get why people think oh tank away and next year you’ll be better and have healthy guys back with a new shiny young player. That may work, but its just as likely it doesnt work, that their 6th pick in the draft is playing in China in 5 years instead of the NBA, you just dont know.

I think its not a great precedent to tank when your star is healthy, it starts to create a mentality that losing is ok.

The problem is there is no sure fire way to win a championship, and all roads to getting one require a lot of things to go your way.

I've already paid to go see 32 more home games, and that alone is a good reason to be against tanking.

    Tanking is for cowards.

    Dame would never allow it.

If you advocate tanking you’re a fair weather fan. You’re just saying “I don’t care how we win, I just want a winning team.” That’s no different from laker fans that never watch a game if the team isn’t a contender.

Ummm... Thats not how that works.

A fan can want different personnel and a different (temporary) approach and still be a fan.

A fair weather fan DOESNT PAY ATTENTION until the team wins. Thats the difference.

No, I think the 6th seed is there for the taking though. That should be our goal at this point.

Not sure i agree with that. They use a injury exception for a roster spot. Then Nurk returns and there is a chance Collins returns (Though i doubt that one). Blazers currently have two roster spots available and they can deal expiring contracts. They also have draft picks that they can deal. If they come out of December in the hunt for a playoff spot. Look for them to be major players in the "Deadline Dance". One good move changes the team. Two good moves makes them a contender no matter what seed they are in. If they come out with the 5-4 or 6-3 matchup second round is not out of the possibility at all. If you make second round you are going to be in a dog fight.
If you have not been around long i understand what you are saying. But if you have been around for many years like me then you know once the playoffs start "ANYTHING" can happen. If you watched last year at all you know this to be true.

The Blazers are about entertainment! The best entertainment is in the playoffs. Not in tanking for a draft pick that you might not even get.

    ^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^

How would the rest of you feel if you had season tickets and the team gave up? No credible franchise would allow it! No real star caliber player would allow it! Nobody who has any competitive nature whatsoever would allow it!

If they did it i would be the first in line yelling to Fire Olshey! Fire Stotts! Trade Damian Lillard! Drain the Blazer SWAMP!

6th is very possible. The top four are probably sewn up. But getting into 5th or 6th would be a great second half of the season.

    Answer to poll question?:
Whichever team Chrissy Paul is on.
In all my years of sportswatching, he is the only athlete I have ever "hated".

No that’s exactly how that works. Rooting for a team to fail is no different than not caring when they are losing. Tanking doesn’t amount to “a different temporary approach” it is a shameful betrayal of the team.

If you advocate tanking then you don’t care at all about all of the things that necessarily happen with tanking: the struggling of the team, the players, the organization - people losing their jobs, their families suffering, people losing interest in the team, etc.

Tank-flakes only care about is the end result of “woohoo my team won” while you ignore every step it took to get there. the analogy to fair weather fans is very fitting. Nobody who advocates tanking gives a shit about the team in any significant sense. Paying attention isn’t sufficient to be a fan, it just makes you an observer.

Silly Nurk. Real fans root against you and hope you lose, so we can get a draft pick.

Also he is right. The blazer fans this year at home have been abysmal and they got outdone by laker fans in the Moda Center on Friday. This is what happens when your fanbase seriously advocates tanking; its impossible for a fanbase to develop enthusiasm when half of the fans are genuinely hoping we lose.
