So expectations obviously affects how you react to an individual play, game or season. For example, every year a few on here predict 55 wins and the WCF..... when we win 48 they are disappointed. They are the first ones flipping out when we have a bad game. As if we are some sort of Dream Team.
When some on here actually think we are going to beat the Lakers the other night, they are FREAKING out in the game thread. Not understanding the talent disparity between the two clubs had anything to do with the outcome.
Last night there were posts on here just calling the team and it's players and coaches names and losing their collective minds.
After seeing them hang their heads after Hood went down and seeing the way they were carrying themselves during warm ups, I knew this was going to be an ugly game. Was I upset, yes. Frustrated, yes. Surprised or shocked, definitely not.

So now that we all know that we are basically missing 3 starters. Are depending on some rookies and NBA journeymen to step up and play starters minutes and contribute...... are expectations realistically lowered? When we play NYC tomorrow and it's a nail biter down the stretch, but we win, are you happy? Or do you think we should blow them out in an easy win? When we travel to Denver and get our asses handed to us, are you accepting because of our situation, or will you spend 45 posts about how horrible Stotts is?

I didn't see these injuries happening obviously in my preseason prediction, but even without them, I thought we'd win 44 games or so.
From here on out, I can understand people getting upset when we lose a game or play like shit, but are really going into those games thinking we are actually going to win?
Kinda' like a Browns fan going into every September thinking they are going to the Super Bowl, then losing their minds when they finish 5-13......should have know that was going to happen going in, right?

I'm a fan of the Blazers from the Womb to the Tomb, that won't fade. But I also don't hold these guys to unrealistic expectations......that's setting yourself up for failure and heartbreak FAMS. #RipCityForLife

    Oh great, another lecture.

Unrealistic expectations? Go tell Dame and everyone else that talked about how this was a championship roster on media day that it was stupid to think that. They are/were good enough to make the WCF's last year but yeah you're right that a 9-15 record should just be exceptable and everyone should have just expected this team to be a lottery team.

First of all, what a great way to start off your reply. "Oh, great, another lecture"
I looked at my post as more of an opinion and question. I wasn't telling anybody how to feel, and I don't remember using the word "stupid" anywhere in my post, did I? Yes they WERE good enough to make the WCF and what a run it was. Some CRAZY ass things had to line up perfectly for that to even happen though. And then you bring in what, 8 new players. NO WAY this team was going to repeat what they did.
I also don't see where I said what is happening is "executable and everyone should have to expect this team to be a lottery team"

It looks like you didn't read one word of my post.

My lawyer is currently in Ukraine collecting information that will be used to reverse all of the results of the prior games and injuries. After these facts are revealed, we will go 82-0 this season as I predicted.

Bingo, bango, bongo! Nailed it! Thank you! Coming from a guy who can at least hear the heart beat of the team from his position, this is relevant stuff............

I read every word. If you can't see how this thread comes across when people are down about how their favorite team is doing then I don't know what to tell you man.

I'm not angry anymore about this team. I'm apathetic.

The original post is so self-righteous it hurts. This forum has had a problem with that lately.

So the guys on the team had unrealistic expectations then, and the fans were following suit. I dont see that as a fan problem, since the team was talking about championship aspirations. Nobody should be happy for a team with championship to barely beat the worst team in the NBA, injuries to our our 4th and 5th starters. Remember, this team had championship aspirations without knowing Nurkic's long-term status.

People hate losing to the Lakers. People hate losing their startimg SF to an achilles tear. People hate our bogus system. People hate the lack of competitveness. People vent their frustrations, that doesnt mean they dont understand the talent disparity.

"They are the first ones flipping"... who?... alright, name names then. If you're going to sit here and call out people, actually do it.

Just because you dont get as frustrated with the team, or because you dont vent in the same way, that doesnt make you better.

People will continue to make excuses to make it seem like the hand we were dealt is much worse than it is. As if somehow, the outcome for this team is magically 25 points better with Rodney Hood...

They're missing 3 starters, have a thin bench and now some of those bench players are getting minutes. Not really surprised by the crappy record.

It has always been this way. Most of the forum falls into three categories.

    1. The homer - unable to see anything critical about the team.

    2. The realist - usually someone that can see the good and the bad.

    3. The cynic - usually someone that's negative all the time.

It has always been this way. The homers are usually the most annoying because they lash out at anyone that doesn't see the way that they do.

I was never angry. Only disappointed just as I am sure the players, the coaches and management have been. Unfortunately we have some in this forum that seem to take anything from this team personally as if the team is doing it on purpose.

I didn't get that kind of vibe from his post

sure, there's some "I told ya so" stuff going on, but everybody throws a little of that around, when they can. And obviously, the season is less than a 3rd over, so there's lots more water to run under the bridge

but a lot of people were questioning just how good this team was compared to last years, and those questions were asked in July, not last week. It was hard to slow the roll around here though. "Simons is the most gifted athlete Olshey has drafted"...."Hezonja is incredibly talented"...."Tolliver is a perfect complement"...."Aminu and Harkless were extremely flawed players and won't be missed"..."the shooting of Curry and Meyers will be replaced"....seemed like most takes were that the new roster was more talented than last year's roster, and that was the prevailing view even while people knew Nurkic could be out till Feb. and was very likely to be a shell of himself when he did return

I saw posters claiming Portland would be as good as the Lakers or the Clippers, & better than Denver. That HCA in the playoffs was likely. The homerism was heavy in this forum. I know people are going to lean heavily on the injury excuse. But the Blazers had almost no chance to win that Clipper game with a healthy Hood so Portland was going to be 9-14 with Hood. And frankly, Zach was not going to dramatically change the trajectory of this team if he stayed healthy, IMO. The off-season was filled with miscalculations by the Blazer front office and by lots of fans

Everyone belongs to either bin 1 or bin 3, but everyone believes they are in bin 2.
