Why? Because we need Collins and Nurkic with suits on the bench? Or because small guards are more important than big athletic forwards/centers who can shoot?
Every plausible trade for a star needs to come with a heavy price to pay. SGA and Gallinari And picks for PG is too much as well. You people want to contend without big star forwards...
What makes Covington attractive is that he's a solid dependable player on a team friendly contract. What's not to like about that? Unfortunately that also makes him desirable to a lot of teams which could drive up the asking price for him.
He's not worth two first round picks and salary relief. He's not THE missing piece on any team, even a contender. Adding Roco to Philly or Houston doesn't automatically boos either team to championship level. There are some GLeague players and guys on the Raptors roster who are making peanuts and providing a similar 3&d impact. While they are hard to find, it's not impossible. We just picked up Ariza off the trash heap and his stats and impact have mirrored Roco's, albeit while being a bit older. Breaking the bank for this guy seems foolish to me.
Why? He's got a torn meniscus and had a setback while rehabbing. He's prolly out the rest of the season.
Ariza is more than a bit older though as Covington is basically the same age as Lillard. What do you think would be fair?
I don't want to get in a bidding war for Roco. We can find Ariza level players on the margins, and it's one of the things Neil is actually good at.
Malik Beasley is a guy I absolutely loved last year. He's a backup wing who projected as a perfect 3&d guy. He's been getting marginalized in Denver with all their depth and Porter coming on, and he's gonna be a RFA this summer. Ain't no way they're gonna pay him. I'd look into him and try to lock down his bird rights.
Problem with that is players on rookie contracts are valuable commodities for teams so their teams are reluctant to trade them during that time. Rookie contracts allow a team to be able to pay for their veterans that demand a high salary. I wasn't asking about a bidding war, just what you would be willing to trade for him (realistically).
Mentioned it in like a million times. HW + protected first for Roco/Dieng. Not going higher than that.
Beasely is only 6'4" and his shooting is pretty poor in the month of January as well with 36% from the field and only 31% from 3 and assists and rebounds are sub par as well for a small forward. I would rather target Dillon Brooks before Beasely.
I said backup wing, not starting small forward, and already explained the reason for his down year. Brooks will be a lot less available than Beasley. Beasley's numbers last season are exactly what Crabbe's were the year before he got paid. Not gonna be that market for Beasley this summer, and Denver has too many guys to pay. They won't break the bank to keep him. I think he'd be a really valuable bench piece this year and for the future.
I didn't know. Zach Lowe said Henry Giles is "probably available". When asked who use to be the best player on his HS class,Tatum replied :Giles , without pausing to think about it. Some KG potential there according to him. Idk about his health tho...
not worried about Ariza age, we have him this year and next, and Little is his replacement next year at the trade deadline.
