Everyone in the league will now know just be physical with Mitchell and will shut down. Trent when guarding Mitchell he basically shut his ass down. But we will be seeing these clowns on April 2. Guess what Nurk and Zach should be back then.
He has a good track record with guys like this. Barton, Crabbe, Connaughton, Layman all became rotation players.
The percentage of players he's drafted that are at least rotation players in the nba is ridiculous. I’d put his draft record up against any other GM.
Trent has been so good on 3-pointers that he has now made more 3’s for the season (63) than any Portland player other than Lillard (210) and McCollum (133). He has more 3-point makes than Carmelo Anthony (55) and Simons (57) despite having played 723 minutes, far fewer than Anthony’s 1,238 minutes and Simons’ 1,173. In fact, Trent has already made more 3-pointers than three of last season’s rotation players made all season – Jake Layman (59), Meyers Leonard (50) and Maurice Harkless (33). And more importantly, the former second-round pick has become a key cog in the Blazers’ attempt to salvage a tough, injury plagued season with a late run to the playoffs. “You just love to see it,” Lillard said of Trent. “I told him the other day, I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud or happier for another player, or a younger player, since I’ve been in the league, for what he’s been doing.” https://www.forbes.com/sites/miketo...r-taking-his-opportunity-and-running-with-it/
Gary Trent: Double figures in 9 out of his 11 recent games. 15+ points in four if them. 34 threes over that stretch. Here comes the kicker: he only registered ONE SINGLE turnover in those 11 games (vs 14 steals, 18 assists).
Quite honestly what saves Olshey for even lasting this long is his drafting skills. He’s a really good GM for small market teams because he finds gems in the 2nd round
Man at the very least he’s a great open 3 pointer shooter and will always have a long career for that type of skill
I think if Simons was playing like that we would be talking about our next All Star. Not saying that Trent is gonna be one, but this is really encouraging. I really hope Anfernee doesn't take any minutes away from him, we really need a guy like that on the wing right now. Next season is a different discussion, but Simons will only hurt us if the target is the playoffs.
And what did he have to show for them? - 5 years of $2M+ dead money - 2 months of Aaron Afflalo Yikes.
If Simons played like this, people would hype him up as a future all-star because it'd be in combination with the high level potential Simons shows. People hype of Simons because he can do things that Trent cant, and his flashes are impressive. Trent was labeled the more NBA ready player, and he's showing that.
Which is a bit weird, because Trent's only a few months older and Ant played more until just a few weeks ago. Even in their first year, Ant played more.
Gary Trent is 63 of 149 for swish3s and that is 42.3%, the highest of active Blazers having made at least 5. He is among FT% leaders at 89.5, and has a WS/48 of 0.104. Gary has earned 6th man status and can continue to make the Blazers competitive against winning teams.
There’s a reason he’s been in our closing lineups lately..and he should continue to be. Dude is money..ready for the spotlight..plays D. When he gets an open 3 I’m surprised when it doesn’t go in
I'm afraid we have been tricked into this "high level potential" because of athleticism. Nothing else is good or looks promising with Simons right now. No passing game, no pull up game, no idea where to be defensively and weak body. Guy has monster vertical but basically that's it for now.
Just a reminder that GS drafted Harrison Barnes in the lottery, and Festus Ezeli in the first round in 2012, both well ahead of Draymond Green. This stuff is common. I still love Ant's upside, but Trent is ready to contribute for real. Now.
