eh? His vision is substantially better than CJ's already. He can make a pinpoint skip pass and most definitely has a good pull game with what looks like elite footwork while coming around picks.
Being better than CJ doesn't mean much. I mean CJ is bad at this. And Ant's ast% is 9.3. Again it's just flashes. Everybody has that or almost everybody. if you compile a video of Ant you can make him look like a superstar, but then again you see his stas, row and advanced and he is just bad.
Right. The flashes that he's shows are what make him an exciting prospect. Whether he reaches that potential is another matter, but he's clearly got tools there that other non-lillard guards on our team dont.
Ridiculous! That is an insanely efficient stretch. In those 11 games, Trent is: 3-pt% - .478 (that includes a 1-10 night) FG% - .616 Asst/TO - 18/1
The thing I really like about Trent is that he doesn't need to dribble much if at all to be effective right now. I totally don't mind a low Ast% if combined with a low usage rate. I really hope Collins comes back this season because I want to see a defensive lineup of Dame, Trent, Ariza, Collins, and either Whiteside/Nurk, especially in late game situations.
Everyone talks about Simons upside he might have that but the problem with Simons is just like CJ there both stop ball type of players and can throw Melo in that conversation.
Trent is catch and shoot type player right now but he still have upside too. When he can take people off the dribbling but right now he when try to get to his spot he keep his dribble until he gets there. I don't think he will never be a slasher.
I give Trent another year playing like this until he get CJ starting position. I believe if Trent continue to play both sides of the ball like he is CJ would be either expandable in trade or come off the bench as 6th man. Guys like Trent are starters in the league because they can play both ends of the floor. Look what Dame said in his interview there putting Trent on the hot man from the opponent. If that not telling you something then I don't know what.
plenty of gleague highlights show the dribble drive. effective dribbling with his left but seems to always switch to finish with his right hand though. upper body strength allowed for separation and absorbing contact. left hand dribble into stepback three was displayed often too. like you pointed out, signs are there for further development to his game at the nba level and as a workout warrior, it seems we may see those skills manifest sooner rather than later. maybe just waiting for them to takeaway the 3 first. seems to be a smart player.
some of those are a little deceptive, but close enough to give a sense of things lot to notice in that box. Trent needs to improve his rebounding to start with. He also needs to develop some dribble drive action and increase his FT rate. The advantages Trent has in TS%, BPM, and winshare/48 are pretty revealing. And that he's almost even with CJ in VORP is very revealing because VORP is a cumulative stat and CJ has 2.5 as many minutes as Trent to me, this may be a more revealing and a better comp: now, this was Klay's 1st season and Trent's 2nd season. But Klay played 3 seasons at WSU, and those two extra years count for something we have to keep in mind though that a real hot streak doesn't set the bar for median play. Trent will likely cool off. Another significant factor is that Trent is getting scouted right now. Teams are going to come into games more prepared for Trent's strengths. I think that's one thing that happened to Simons. Opponents took away his best arrows and he has nothing else in his quiver
Always hear about Simons’ upside but I think it all depends on wether he can develop as a lead guard. It’s very hard to become a facilitator at the nba level if you aren’t already one coming in imo. His frame also doesn’t seem like it’ll be able to add too much weight. Right now, I’d say his ceiling is Will Barton. That’s not bad, but it’s also nothing to get too amped about. Trent at minimum is a 3&D wing. But from what I’ve seen from him in different settings, like the g league for example, he can create his own shot off the dribble and has a post up game. We just haven’t seen that part of his game...yet. Also, look at his body and compare it to Simons. They’re the same age. Trent is gonna be a beast when he hits his mid 20s.
I hate per 36 stats for guys playing less than half that time. Can't believe people still use that shit like gospel. These things in basketball cannot just be extrapolated linearly like that.
That's one thing I hate about Twitter is that it's sometimes very difficult to have a discussion with the character limits.
Mike Richman had some insight that you don't read elsewhere about Gary: Apparently, coaching staff was really frustrated with Gary's defense early in the year and his lack of focus in the few minutes that he was playing. Also a fun note about CJ apparently telling Gary not to play so much 1 on 1 after practice to save his legs for fourth quarters.
