We don’t suck enough to get Avdija but a lot of the teams in the lottery are also dumb so maybe he falls.

I think we’ll be in a good position to take a chance on upside. We’re a lottery team (most likely) that’s not banking on hitting on the pick, if that makes sense. So Olshey can take a risk on guys like Hampton and McDaniels.

I think both have a chance to be rotation players on good teams.

Don't think the upside is very high with either though. Likely low usage players that are lacking some necessary physical tools for their roles.

Bey probably is a little safer, but Vassell is more unique and has more starter potential.

    Saddiq Bey
+ Nice blend of shooting and size (6'8" / 41.7% on 3's on good volume)
+ Quick feet and hip turns give him some on ball versatility defensively
+ Quick release and shot mechanics give him some shot diversity
+ Safe player offensively, stays in his lane, well-coached
    - Lacking as an athlete minus quick feet and hip turns
*Shows up most in recovery situations when beat on ball, rebounding, and contesting shots, not very disruptive if he can't stick with a guy on ball
    - Doesn't offer much in terms of ball handling or playmaking
    - Little burst or deceptiveness on ball, rarely gets to rim in half court or draws fouls
    - Athleticism reduces team D potential, would look best in a switching scheme

    Devin Vassell
    +
Rangy, high IQ team defender. Great awareness as help defender, deterrent, disrupts offensive flow
    * Rangy athleticism helps most in help and recovery situations on perimeter, can cover ground and make quality contests
+ Strides, decision making, open court athleticism and motor makes him a nice threat in transition
+ Quick and high release plus some pull up ability gives him some shot diversity
+ Safe player offensively, ball mover, well-coached
    - Like Bey, has little burst or deceptiveness on ball, rarely gets to rim in half court or draws fouls
    - Doesn't project as a self creator or playmaker
    - Struggles at times on ball defensively. Not the quickest feet or hips, doesn't have great strength or length. Not a lockdown guy
    - Not the most aggressive player, fades in and out of games on both ends at times. Has stretches of big impact on both ends, but not consistent

That's the only reason he won't be a top-3 pick though. Look how far Brandon Clarke fell last year.

After trading Skal and if you get your wish with Whiteside being gone, there's no big depth on the roster right now.

It’s a buyers market for bigs this summer, so replacing Whiteside in case he leaves shouldn’t be expensive or difficult.

I have 4 Villanova games on the DVR to start going in on Bey.

Is Vassell still your target at the end of the lottery?

Yeah I know, I'm just saying that we shouldn't not draft a big because there isn't a ton of depth.

And if Whiteside is kept you have center locked down and Toppin can back up Collins. It's a good problem to have.

I’d be down with Toppin. I like the Washington guy too.

    Probably, unless Okoro falls.

I'm not crazy high on him, but think he's a nice fit and I enjoy his game most out of the guys in that range. I'm open to trading the pick in the right deal though.

Xavier Tillman and Killian Tillie are my 2nd round guys. Both have skills that fit on good teams and could potentially play minutes early on.

Interested to see what you think of Bey.

Avdija is with a group in which their stock is all over the map according to mock drafts so it's hard to gauge.

I am glad there are a lot of guards projected to go high.

There's a great chance one of Toppin, Avdija, or Okoro could be on the board still around 10.

Stewart has a throwback game but his FT% also suggests he’ll be able to expand his range. Good length as well. I’m a fan.

Only 17 and extremely raw. He's the type of project you take a risk on if you're picking in the late first.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I like Killian Hayes a lot. He seems to be mocked to a pretty wide range that I've seen (from top-five to late lottery), so it's possible he's around when Portland drafts. His stock seems to be rising though, so probably not.

Ok I’ll say this, if Portland gets Avdija I’m going to pass out.

It's tough because I think they'd definitely have a shot at him if they finished towards the back couple of teams fighting for that 8th spot but they're more likely to go on a run with 7 of the next 8 at home and end up with like the 13th to 17th pick.
