This is going to be difficult but lets keep this thread about the Coronavirus and sports. There is a thread in the OT section for the medical and political parts of the virus.

There's a reason why the LA Marathon and its 500k expected participants and spectators are looking to postpone it this weekend. The NCAA is seriously deliberating playing tournament games in front of an empty stadium.

Yet, the lack of concern and dismissive attitude by people is staggering. Do people not realize how big of a deal this could be? I work in the Pharma industry and it's baffling how little information people are getting about this. Any potential vaccine is more than a year away and we have so little knowledge of how this could pass.

I'm guessing that if the NBA were to think about playing in front of empty arenas they would just cancel the rest of the seasons. If they close the stadiums they would have to refund the cost of tickets sold out of pocket but if the season were canceled insurance would pick up that cost. The majority of owners would rather cancel the season then lose a ton of money.

It seems likely that they would base decisions about allowing crowds to attend on local virus conditions rather than blanket policies. Right now, there are big chunks of the country that have no cases. It would be dumb to cancel tickets there. OTOH, in places where the disease is widespread, canceling games or tickets would make sense.

Also, the closer we get to the end of the season would factor into any decisions about canceling the rest of the season.
