A lot, just happened with Sacramento a few years ago. The NBA isn't going to allow a team to move that has a decent arena, a huge amount of fan support, and that has been around for 50 years. Key Arena was a dump. I couldn't believe the NBA allowed games to be played there. However, they did learn from that mistake. Plus, part of the reason this franchise is valued more than other small market teams is because it also includes ownership of the arena. It would be bad business to buy an arena and then move the team out of that arena thus having an arena with no tenant.
There's a difference between fake news and clickbait. Jaynes is speculating, but put a clickbait title.
San Diego needs a team. Seattle needs a team. Vegas needs a team. Portland has very little to offer. FIRE! It's Away!
A time machine back to when the team wasn't worth 2 billion, and then in a parallel universe where NBA teams didn't potentially cost millions each year to run.
I had to do a google search for a photo of Jody Allen when she became owner of the team. I had a fresher recollection of what Paul Allen's mother looked like than his sister. Just from the fact that we rarely if ever saw Jody around over the years, I doubt she's that big of a basketball fan. I assume the interest and financial commitment to improve the team last year was a way for her to honor Paul. Who knows though because people express their fandom in different ways. I do expect her to sell the team based on not seeing her around much over the years, and the fact that she has suddenly become cost conscious this season.
Dwight Jaynes is more and more irrelevant and he knows it. So he's gotta come up with crap like this to get his name in the news. Crapzano does this also when he needs to feed his ego.
And his speculation is based entirely on one thing; the estimated value of the team. He could have at least talked to Torturedblazer fan!
Wasn't there a rumor going around that Paul Allen said in his will that if Jody sold the Seahawks and/or Blazers the money would go to charity?
There was an article a while back about Jody Allen and Inheritance tax. It was saying that very often when someone inherits a large number of assets like Jody Allen has they end up needing to sell off some of the assets in order to pay the taxes. It broke down some of the differences between Asset rich and capital-rich. Again I have no idea how much capital she has, she is obviously very rich. I don't think the team is moving, or anything like that. I am of the opinion that she will eventually (somewhat short term) sell them for one reason or another. I could've written this article for Jaynes and I guess, but it seems like a weird article to write when he obviously has no idea, no quotes, no real information.
I love Vescey back in the day. Pre-internet, his column in the NY Post was the only way to hear about gossip and trade rumors. And his columns were funny.
Here is why Jody Allen is not going to sell the Blazers and Seahawk. There are many things a billionaire can own and brag about, cars, mansions, private planes, yachts, etc, the most rare toy to own is an NFL franchise. There are only 32 of them. Jeff Bezos doesn't own one, Bill Gates doesn't, Warren Buffett no. These are very rare and very much in demand. Also almost as rare and desirable is an NBA franchise. There are only 30 of those. Now of all the richest people in the world, of all the things you can buy and use to validate and show off your wealth, there are only two people in the entire world that owns both an NFL and NBA franchise. And they are Jody Allen and Tom Benson. No matter how much money other billionaires have they don't have that. And when you can have practically anything you want, having something that no one else can have is very very intoxicating. Also because of the popularity, the tax advantages, the TV contracts, an NFL franchise is pretty much one of the very few things that can guarantee your family generational wealthy. It's pretty obvious that she doesn't need the money now. And it's pretty obvious that she has all the toys a billionaire could want. She only loses bragging rights in selling, she only loses future income for her and her family. She ain't giving up those sweet sweet billionaire bragging rights.
They approached our Nashville group, but we're currently dealing with the effects of the tornado. Part of the equation, though, deals with the MLS stadium negotiations. Can only do so much.
Tom Benson died two years ago. It's actually Gayle Benson that owns both now. To your point though it's even more rare for two females to hold such powerful positions.
