President Trump declares New York a major disaster area as NYC hospitals run low on ventilators and masks and 'epicenter' city makes up a THIRD of all US coronavirus cases
    • The declaration allows New York State access to FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund
    • The Trump administration declaration was issued Friday
    • This is the first time in US history a major disaster has been declared over a public health threat

People will still ignore it. These are dire times, you have to be bold.

I was reading today that santa monica seemed more packed today after the order than the last few days.

If people won't, the police then the military will enforce.

They wont. Cause not a single politician would win an election if their opposition can say you remember how great things were when you had martial law and half of you starved to death because you ran out of food.

Even Italy's "lockdown" allows people to leave their homes for certain things, like groceries and other tasks. I sincerely doubt any state or city is going to enforce people staying in their homes with police, let alone military.

Moscow Mitch's plan would give up to $1200 to citizens based on 2018 tax returns. So if you had a good job two years ago and are now unemployed, you could get half or nothing. There are big tax cuts for corporations, many of which already pay no federal income tax. Corporations used previous trillion dollar tax cuts for stock buybacks or executive bonuses, like airline industry. I have no problem helping small businesses but why should airlines get more, especially when so many people really hurting get nothing?

He's clearly communicating the actions that he's taking, and he's taking responsibility for them.
He's not talking out his ass, telling lies, blaming previous administrations, blaming the media, etc.
He's even setting a good example by not having a dozen human props standing shoulder-to-shoulder behind him.

So yeah, he says - and does - nice stuff. The kind of stuff that an actual leader says and does in a crisis.

I'm not generally a Cuomo fan. But he's a welcome counterpoint to President Ialonecanfixit.

It's true, I've even seen a guy with long hair and a long beard carrying a sign to that effect.

Considering that half the deaths in America were of really old people who got infected by healthcare workers because they were held prisoner in "nursing homes" I'd be seriously considering breaking her out somehow. That's tough. People's lives are going to take drastic turns before this is through.

I've seen no panic anywhere. Nothing close. A few disgruntled shoppers and nothing more. Was up in PDX the last few days and thoroughly enjoyed driving in 1960's traffic. No road rage or angry drivers. Traffic deaths will probably be the lowest in decades this year. Less chances of school or mall murders by crazies. Pretty much everyone seems to be on board except Bernie's millennials who are determined to kill their grandparents for their inheritance.

So Ive had to go in to work everyday and this morning the roads were basically barren when they’re normally full. Almost all the businesses in our area at work were closed (parking lots empty), the only places I saw a lot of traffic were Walmart and Fred Meyers. So it (anecdotally) seemed like people were staying in.

Couldn't have a more opposite experience than you the last week. Roads are jammed. Businesses are flooded with people just out and about not caring. Every parking lot shopping center I drive by is full.

I drove by a skate park today and there were well over 200 people mostly crowded around in big groups.

I have a friend who works at Office Depot. He said the worst location in the district is up 250% week to date. His location is up 600%.
