Biden mocked after apparent teleprompter issue during coronavirus remarks: ‘Let me go to the second thing’

By Brian Flood | Fox News

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was mocked on Monday after the gaffe-prone 2020 Democratic front-runner appeared to lose his train of thought when his teleprompter malfunctioned during remarks on the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden's remarks, livestreamed from a studio set up in his home, began with his touching his face despite ongoing warnings not to do that during the coronavirus pandemic. His remarks were also short compared with the president's near-daily coronavirus briefings, lasting less than 15 minutes in total, and featured a clear teleprompter issue that became a social media punchline.

The former vice president was detailing his plan to fight the coronavirus crisis, but appeared to lose track of his place on the teleprompter. Biden signaled to his staff that there was something wrong, before going off on an awkward ad-lib.

"And, in addition to that, in addition to that we have to make sure that we, we are in a position that we are, well met me go the second thing, I've spoken enough on that," Biden said before going on to speak about the aggressive action he would like Trump to take under the Defense Production Act.

“Joe Biden when the teleprompter stops working is a train wreck,” social media strategist Caleb Hull wrote.

Biden -- who had been oddly silent during the pandemic until Monday -- covered a range of topics including what he would do if he were in the Oval Office and the lessons that can be learned from governors' actions to fight the coronavirus – but some viewers harped on the blunders.

“What a disaster,” GOP spokesperson Elizabeth Harrington wrote. “Biden has had plenty of time to think about this, and he can't even figure out what to say without help from a teleprompter.”

Critics took to Twitter to mock the situation:

First of all it's from Fox News which has mostly fake news so I wouldn't pay attention to their crap. Can't you drum up some credible news source?

I assume ALL of the liberals here are going to vote third party after listening to this woman's story.

I'm sure Biden can pass a lie detector test though.....only because he can't remember.

I'm gonna vote third party, anyways. Of course, at this point, third party might mean I'm voting for someone's dog. Cause all third party candidates are being told how evil they are because by running they might hurt the establishments.

We've already passed the point where past sexual assaults (alleged or not) seem to matter to voters.

A vote for a third party candidate at this point is a vote for Putin's dog. Until third parties actually become viable, voting for them is just a surrogate vote for someone else.

It's not, no matter how many times people repeat it, it doesn't make it true. Third parties will also never ever become "viable" if no one votes for them because they're too busy voting for D's and R's. IMO this is just a bullying tactic used by the established parties to keep competition at bay. In my case, if I couldn't write in or have a third party on the ballot I would literally not vote at all. Then say I do that, now the establishment people, all say well you didn't vote so you don't get to have an opinion on politics. So you're told to shut up basically cause you didn't vote for them. The entire thing is just a cycle of you vote for us or we'll demonize you - cause we'll say you allowed the other team to win -, or silence you from being able to converse about it because you didn't show up and do what we said you could do.

We have to change the system which I am all for. Just continuing to vote for third parties in the current system is treadmilling...it goes no where fast.

By all means vote third party if that is where your conscience leads you good. At this point, with this system a third party candidate can't win. Those votes just take votes away from one of the other too candidates.

Also, I don't care for that you didn't vote so you don't get a say nonsense.

Isn't continuing to vote for the parties its own treadmill?

In a way, but both of those candidates actually have a chance to win. Like I said the system needs to be changed.

You are free to do it, but it sure seems pointless. If 2016 didn't make any 3rd parties viable, what set of circumstances do you think ever will?

It comes down to probabilities - there's about a 97% likelihood that Biden will be a better president than Trump, whereas there's about a 3% probability that if you keep voting 3rd party, sometime within your lifetime a 3rd party will become viable.

I'd agree the system is screwed up. I just don't see how continuing to be complicit to it changes it. Whether my candidate has a "chance" to win this year or a third party does or not, if no one's voting third party it hinders third party movements of the future. I vote the third party not because I think my vote this year will win, but because I want more and more to vote third party to show legitimate third party candidates to see the support is out there and if that support continues to grow, I believe that's good for this country.
