I drive for UPS. My old route I delivered to Jackson middle school. Did Stephenson, Lancaster and Arnold roads all the way to Boone’s Ferry. Then recently switched routes to other side of I5 and deliver the Garden Home/Ash Creek area. I like it much more. SW Portland is a unique area. Hiking trails all over. Unpaved roads
Yes. That is the only one I ever went to as a kid, and I'm glad I have at least one photo of me there.
My brother worked at a Kienows on 23rd. and West Burnside. He packed grocery sacks and helped little old ladies out to their cars with their groceries. They were a slightly better store than the average grocery store. He enjoyed that job.
I used to buy all my sporting gear there. Started with a pair of Adidas track shoes, also jock straps and wrestling shoes. I think I bought various shorts and wrestling knee pads there. Probably some other stuff. They are long gone from their original location. Don't even know if they're still in business.
How many remember Quality Pie on NW Northrup and 23rd.? That was 2 1/2 blocks from my house on NW Northrup between 25th and 26th. How about the Pinafore and the Dairy Maid on State Street in Lake Oswego? How about the concrete Farmer's Market near the old Meir and Frank? Anybody ever ride the electric trolley's in downtown Portland? How about the brick and the cobble stone streets? Anybody ever visit the old Hoyt Hotel, home of the Roaring 80s bar? How about J.K. Gills in downtown Portland? How about the department store Olds and King? Manning cafeteria? Lipman, Wolf and Comany? Jantzen Swimwear? I was the head janitor there right before I got drafted in the Army. What about the largest log building in the world that burned down in about 1960? It had a smoke lookout tower right inside the incredibly large log building. They also had historic locomotives parked on the grounds. All was lost in the fire. It was near the Montgomery Ward building. Hey, I'm just getting started. How about Montgomery Ward? I briefly worked in their NW headquarters on NW Vaughn Street. Shattuck school. Now part of Portland State. I'll bet no one in here actually saw the Vanport flood. Yep, I saw it as a toddler. Anybody know what became of Vanport College? I do and I graduated from it's successor.
There was also that kicks spot in NE where they had metal fencing inside the store. Forgot what it was called. I think it was on Alberta or killingsworth
