and why do you think that is? Maybe because trump blows so much bull shit that it's so easy to prove wrong? Maybe it's because he attacks the media over every and any thing that suggests he is lying and/or not doing a good job? trump offers so much fuel for his detractors that it's like shooting ducks in a barrel.

I think “TDS” is a snarky acronym for a common tendency by people on both ends of the political spectrum to make assumptions that whatever a political adversary says or does is wrong, misguided, and/or downright evil. These assumptions are based more on the messenger than the message. I think we see an example of that throughout the media and on this board in comments about hydroxychloroquine. Trump, irresponsibly by most any scientific perspective, touted the drug as a potential game changer in the COVID-19 battle. Now, if you’re liberal you have to take the position that it’s crap, and if you’re a Repub you have to be all in on it as a panacea being unjustly denied to the masses by stodgy FDA rules. Crazy.

Here is a good article in the WSJ on the drug, including some theories as to why it might actually be beneficial, as well as risks associated with its use. Scientific testing is underway to assess its effectiveness. Until they are completed, it’s just a potential treatment that may or may not work. I don’t think being an elephant or a donkey will have much effect on the outcome.

LMAO! Did you even read the US CODE they were referencing?

The FDA acknowledges a possible health benefit, suggests using it mainly for clinical trials (I agree), but can be used as an "off label" treatment, as long as it's prescribed by the physician to their patient.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/21/360bbb-3

My statement is that the FDA approval for "off label use." Dr Steven Hahn, Commissioner of FDA clearly said the FDA supports the doctors to discuss the benefits and risk to the patients and the doctor then prescribing it "off label."

    Nothing contradicts my initial statement.

    Doctors don't need an exception.
Any drug that's approved for any use can be prescribed by a doctor for anything that the doctor wants to prescribe it for. That's how Interferon was given to me back in the mid 70s. People might not like it but it's perfectly legal.
Now chloroquine phosphate has been prescribed for my Aunt who has rheumatoid arthritis. She's hoping that it will have the side effect of protecting her from Covid19 coronavirus.

It has not gone through the entire process of approval by the FDA, that is all I am saying. They are allowing it's use on "emergency basis." Off label means they haven't had the time to fully test it, that it hasn't gone through thr full process of approval. It is a special circumstance.

That said, I also hope it does work. If it saves lives I'm all for it. There have been some reports of it working. But, those cases seem to be far and few in between.

all of us should be in agreeance on hoping the medicine works. I don't think that is in question. Anyone would be remiss not to desire it to save lives, despite Trumps involvement with the drug.

I do agree, open dialogue is healthy

@magnifier661 is like a hot chic you are madly in love with until you find out she hasn’t seen any of the Star Wars or Indiana Jones movies. He is such a cool guy until you find out he supports Trump.
Oh well, good to have you back FAMS! Missed you and hope your family is all safe down there in the desert!

But, some on here say they hope Trump gets the Virus. How will he be able to save lives if he is in isolation?

Because if he caused lives to die, then he is also causing lives to live if this works, correct?

Sorry bro. I couldnt resist. :)

This is true, but we can all agree that there aren't many drugs more vetted than this one. There is a lot of toxicology, side effect knowledge, and understanding of this medication.

I have heard that sentiment. I have not shared it. Despite, my dislike for Trump I wouldn't wish the virus on anyone. That said, wishing Trump to get said virus is not the same as wishing the medicine not to work and innocent lives being lost.

He can work from isolation. Most everyone else already is. In fact Trump in isolation might be aggreable.

He has cost a lot of lives with his inaction. Though Hydroxycholoroquine may and I hope does save a lot of lives, it won't male up for the ones lost.

I don't get your logic. He is causing lives to live by causing lives to die?

Wait, are you agreeing he caused lives to die by his inactions, but also maintaining he is causing lives to live through hawking Hydroxycholroquine? One doesn't cancel out the other.

There is a lot of knowledge about it's side effects and toxicology as it pertains to Malaria, Lupus, and Arthritis. We still don't fully understand how it reacts to Covid-19 and what the side effects are as it pertains to this new virus.

And again, I hope it works
