1967 I got a ticket at one of the road checks in the Santa Cruz Mountains for being to low to the ground in my 56 Chevy. If I had been in Bakersfield I doubt I would have been ticketed.

When I was building my second custom van back in the 70's my dad and I built (80% my dad) a nice potent 351 Windsor engine that had a fairly radical cam, a rare factory aluminum single plane aluminum manifold and a holley carb along with some headers. I was eventually going to run side pipes but when first installed I just installed a couple of turbo mufflers with no end pipe and that sucker would shake buildings when it was idling. Well shortly after the installation was done I was driving through the Hollywood district and a cop pulls me over and tells me my vehicle was making excess noise. I admit, it was a bit obnoxious with the pipes reverbarating under that van body. He just issued me a warning and told me to get my exhaust fixed. That was a mean little engine but being in a van didn't do it justice as there was zero aerodynamics in a van. If it was in a Mustang it would have been a pretty mean machine.

Loved customized vans! A kid I grew up with started Sassy Chassis and did real well with it.

lol, you're not going to believe this but I was the first employee to work for Sassi Chassi as Kelly, his girlfriend and I were the only employees when we first started out. My dad was good friends with Myles (who was Kelly's dad) and financed it. Our shop was in the Johns Landing area and a good friend of mine had the shop right below where they did custom painting and hand painted signs.

yep. Did you know his dad? I remember hearing he was sick and then when I worked with my dad out at the Portland Car Swap Meet many moons ago he came by our booth and he was a shell of himself and shortly after passed away. Do you know what Kelly is up to now days? I haven't seen him in about 35-40 years as I left there to go to work for Rose City Upholstery and then went on to the company I worked at for around 28 years.

Neither of you guys will believe this amazing coincidence: Sassi Chassi is a company I've never heard of!

I haven't seen Kelly since we met up at a bar in Oak Grove about 25 years ago.
I remember his dad and did hear he passed away. Kelly was my brothers age I was threes years ahead of him he was always over at our house when younger and his parents were similar to mine, younger and liked nice cars. Great guy!

I've noticed some people tailgating and zig zagging in and out of traffic but it seems like a lot less than before. This has all been on I-5 in the S curves near Barbur Blvd.
Overall, I'd have to say that people are driving much much better.
Even my driving is better. Whereas I used to go 64 in a 55, I now 60 in a 55. In residential areas I drive 25 or even less these days.

Northern Cal. on a deserted road late at night. Not another car in sight considering that I couldn't see the police car parked on the side of the road
Not another car in sight tells you it wasn't the LA area. 24 hrs./7 days a week there are cars in LA. This was somewhere around 1972. I was driving a little four banger with about 100 horse power.

When I was 20, I was driving back from a friends house.
Was late at night and I was doing 93 on some backroads in my 92 honda civic hatch.
Didn't get pulled over doing that speed. But about 5 minutes later I got hit for doing 85 in a 45.
Cop told me because I was respectful, had insurance and wasn't drunk he wasn't going to arrest me.
Did give me a $400+ dollar ticket though.
It was then I realized I worked too damn hard for my money and getting caught speeding wasn't worth it.
    Haven't got caught speeding since.

I’m out on the roads and highways nearly every day and it’s true. People are driving crazy. Especially the long haul truckers. I’ve seen a couple awful accidents since the stay at home orders started.

I got my mazda 626 to 126 mph on highway 26 going to the coast no ticket. Then a week later got a ticket going 81. Since then though I drive like an old Man. Just go the speed limit and thats it for me.

I've been accused of driving like a grandma. Generally true. I realized a while back that unless you're driving 100+ miles, speeding can't really save you more than a couple minutes overall, and I can't imagine those couple minutes being worth the aggravation and cost of tickets.
