39 Texas City nursing home residents successfully complete hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19
Residents completed a five-day treatment of hydroxychloroquine and their doctor said none have experienced side effects.

DALLAS — What happened at a Galveston County nursing home over the last week was one of the first big tests of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients in Texas.

“I thought the risk of seeing 15% of that nursing home die was just not an acceptable,” said Dr. Robin Armstrong, MD, medical director at The Resort at Texas City.

Fifty-six residents at this senior facility in Galveston County contracted the novel coronavirus. Dr. Robin Armstrong said 39 of them gave him permission to treat them with hydroxychloroquine pills.

Didn't know that. The WaPost is a 'rag' imo too for the simple reason that I doubt and question every piece of news anyone provides. Any thought on the actual article, instead of just stating fun facts?

not much info in that article. I'm not sure what the criteria is for a blind study. But to me, the obvious question is what happened to the 17 residents with Covid who didn't agree to the drug?

Oh, I’m not saying this is some scientific study. Just sharing news regarding it.

The link is from the N.Y. Post, Lanny, not the NYT.

While I don't think that the NYT is a "rag", it certainly made kind of a raggy move with their article that originally started this thread:

"If hydroxychloroquine becomes an accepted treatment, several pharmaceutical companies stand to profit, including shareholders and senior executives with connections to the president. Mr. Trump himself has a small personal financial interest in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine."

The inference by the NYT that Trump was pushing hydroxychloroquine for personal financial gain was ludicrous. His interest in the Sanofi turned out to be maybe a few thousand dollars worth of stock in a mutual fund in a blind family trust. The drug isn't even one of the main pharmaceuticals that Sanofi manufactures.

I think it's a different group. Doesn't discount this study though. Hopefully, we get the peer review.

don't get me wrong, I hope the drug combos do have efficacy. Even if the results are only mild reductions in fever or inflammation in some patients, that's better than nothing. The side effects are a worry, especially with vulnerable patients, but 50 years of use should have least created a baseline for monitoring side effects

Agreed. It’s one of the tools we have right now. When something better comes, then start using that.

I am not certain which french organization is which. This one did a test with unfavorable results. If it is the same one or not, I do not know.

No idea. Canzano writes a lot of crap but sometimes hits on something good. Give credit where credit is due.

Yeah, but I think the effect is the opposite of what you were looking for. If canzano won one and a right wing production hasn't, that kind of puts them down even lower than canzano.
