Well, sounds like you're assuming that I'm white, but at least you acknowledged that racism is by no means exclusive to the south...and for that, I thank you.

I also don't believe as others believe that the incident was premeditated.

Actually, I believe that pedestrians are supposed to be on the left side of the road facing traffic. I was taught that at a very young age.

actually... if you watch the video, you can see him jogging on the left side, Then he veers to the right likely after he realized something was wrong.

Some people, will come up with anything to avoid being wrong. LOL.

If you want to keep your racial origins to yourself, so be it. But then don’t post pictures of yourself on this site.

    Dayum! Snakes are evil!

How do I edit this insulting post? Remember even jokes aren't allowed now. ;)

I believe Yank to be a good man. Just head strong like many. i'm sure he doesn't want evil spread about the world like the serpent. I may disagree with him on most everything, but I don't actually think anyone on here truly wants bad things to happen to anyone. Sometimes we are overwhelmed with emotions is all.
so you should really take that back. joke or not.

You were the one who replied to me and also referenced "WHITE splainin'"...if you already thought I was white, why still make a comment that only applies to white people?

As I made clear enough, your response is what guys my age have learned to expect from white southerners whenever there is a black person killed by a white person. It’s in the south’s DNA whether you like it or don’t. Am I generalizing??? Fuck yeah. Big surprise in the OT Forum, eh? But the south has a long, documented track record of dragging its’ heels (To be extremely kind) when a white person kills a black person.......I don’t blame you for being defensive, especially in a forum of (mostly) liberal, white northerners. But it is what it is......

While racism was alive and well in the North, it wasn't an integral part of the North's identity, the way it was for the South. That's why, despite the North having its own ugly history of racism, racism isn't still as interwoven into the fabric of society outside the South.

That isn't to say there isn't still racism in the states that weren't part of the Confederacy. There is. But it's far less pronounced than in the South, and that's essentially why. And it's important to know and understand when you take in these types of incidents. Is every violent event in Southern states about race? No. But you have to consider that context, otherwise you're missing a lot of vital information in processing these events.

I have spent enough time in the south (minus the Carolinas) and have interacted with more than a few folks on either side of the color divide. It is a completely different environment from our little corner of the world. Seems the “lines” are a great deal more clearly defined than up here. The white folks I talked to (mostly guys) were without fail, extremely defensive if and when the talk turned to anything outside they’re own state. Also without fail, they were the ones who brought up race and politics, as if I was somehow down there to attack them, even though I NEVER brought those topics up. And that is NOT an exaggeration. Maybe that’s a “good” thing???? At least everyone knows where they stand.....? Whatever, it made me very uncomfortable. And left a very strong impression that many southerners still long for the days when whites made all the rules....

Yeah, I've interacted with a lot of Southerners and been there a couple of times. The cultural trauma of the Civil War is pretty evident--culturally, it's a very defensive region. But in a very different way than, say, post-WWII Germany. Germany has also been very defensive and scarred by the Nazi era, but they responded by enacting extreme measures to stomp out any remnant of it. The (white) South has almost been defiant about embracing that period as deeply important and meaningful which empowers large swathes (but certainly not all) of it to consider prejudicial views to be just another viewpoint that should be respected.
