This is gonna be really wild when the officer is only found guilty of manslaughter.

Just saying it is going to be hard to find an impartial jury

    No he won't.

Its not even on the table for 3rd degree murder and manslaughter.

Asphyxiation was not a cause of death.

Guy had some kind of drugs or alcohol in system and likely had a heart attack. Manslaughter is a slam dunk, anything else, I dont think will stick.

Yeah, it probably will, but that will cause even more protest. The people of Minneapolis want to see him tried there.

Sure, anytime anyone kills anyone it's a problem. It's also unrelated to the issue of white cops disproportionately killing black men and women.

It's akin to coming into a discussion about how cancer is a big problem by saying, "What no one is talking about is that heart disease is also a big problem and kills lots of people"--that's counterproductive and comes across like an attempt to hijack a conversation and divert from the topic of the conversation. Black people killing black people or white cops killing white people isn't relevant to a discussion about racial prejudice.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Let's get something straight: no one (here) is saying all cops are bad or that police don't deserve respect for what they do. The issue is that police, as a group, disproportionately kill black men and women for a number of reasons. The issue is also that there are number of racist violent cops who single out black people. These are two separate but related issues.

The first one has a lot of factors, many of which are unconscious or systemic bias--whether it's having police who don't understand or care about a community policing that community, having an unrepresentative police force, having poor training programs in some cases, putting little to no emphasis on de-escalation or treating minority neighborhoods as "enemy territory." Police don't have to be racists themselves in order for police forces that operate like this to disproportionately kill people of color.

The second one is a lot simpler--violent, abusive police officers should be arrested and tried like any other violent criminals, but police forces reflexively close ranks around all cops whether or not they're bad actors and the justice system often covers for police officers too. This makes platitudes like "a few bad apples" not as applicable as one might hope, because when the police department gives cover to even the "bad apples" the whole department is tainted.
