ok then, where is Oregon at this point in time:

    upload_2020-6-3_10-4-26.png

that's new cases normalized to 1-week average, and it's a worrying trend-line as far as re-opening goes. But we would need to set that graph along-side the 1 week average for new testing:

    upload_2020-6-3_10-6-55.png

so yeah, testing has increased but the trend-line for new cases has spiked more extremely. That's not good, but it's a small-enough time-line it could still be a bit of an aberration.

the new hospitalizations on 1-week average have jumped a little too:

    upload_2020-6-3_10-10-16.png

Oregon still ranks at the bottom (good thing) in total cases/million:

    Wyoming 1,576
    West Virginia 1,156
    Oregon 1,028
    Alaska 666
    Montana 491
    Hawaii 461

    and deaths/million:

    West Virginia 44
    Oregon 37
    Utah 35
    Wyoming 29
    Montana 16
    Alaska 14
    Hawaii 12

but we are 49th in tests/million:

    Kansas 35,462
    Ohio 35,068
    Colorado 33,115
    Oregon 31,793
    Idaho 27,234

I guess if the rates of positive cases and deaths set testing levels, Oregon is doing OK. But I'd like to see that testing level move up the list instead of move down. Now, I do remember reading a couple of months ago that Oregon required the official test count to be chemical testing, rather than chemical and serological testing combined, so maybe Oregon is doing much better than that chart indicates. I do know that several states have included serological tests (anti-body) in the test counts. If Oregon doesn't, that might be a good thing

all-in-all, the picture isn't quite as positive for Oregon as it was a couple of weeks ago. The new case and new hospitalizations numbers have jumped. Not enough to curb re-opening, IMO, but certainly those are flashing amber lights telling us to proceed cautiously

are you aware that you're asking a lot of questions that could have an optional answer of "people are just fucking stupid"...?

in other words, nothing has changed. Covid is still out there, still a major threat, and we could see major spikes in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths over the next month

I don't think it's unreasonable to point out the hypocrisy of politicians vilifying all public gatherings, except when said public gathering happens to be a protest with obvious political capital attached.

    WTF?

cernovitch is the right wing nut job who started the pizza-gate horseshit. conspiracies-R-us.

"Cernovich is known for his promotion of fake news, conspiracy theories,[7][8] and smear campaigns.[9][10] He helped spread Pizzagate, which falsely claimed that John Podesta and other high-ranking Democratic Party officials were involved in a child-sex ring.[5][11] Cernovich has falsely accused various political opponents of being pedophiles or supporting pedophilia. He succeeded in getting Sam Seder fired from MSNBC with such an allegation, but the reporter was reinstated when Cernovich's claim about him was revealed to be a falsehood"

Did all these protests start like last Wednesday? I’m thinking the cases are going to spike soon

oh for fucks sake people. Lets use some common sense. Its one thing to say he reacted late, but to think this could be handled in the USA the same as the countries just listed is ridiculous. Why?

    Cuba...42,426 sq miles
    Vietnam...127,881 sq miles
    Cambodia....69,898 sq miles
    Tunisa....63,170 sq miles
    Sloviakia...18,933 sq miles

    USA....3.797 million sq miles

I'm all about fighting Trump, but every time UI read nonsense like this, it makes me wonder about who people want to replace Trump and I say to myself. These same people are the ones trying top pick someone to replace Trump? Using this type of logic?

We are fucked for eternity then.

    Sorry @crandc

But your post has zero context to the situation.

I could open this up and look up some data on the average miles a day traveled by Americans vs those countries. I bet its a staggering difference as well..

If people want unity against Trump, the best thing to to is be honest and reasonable with those you want to pull away. Without that, Why would I want to trust any opinion out there if that same opinionizer isn't able to use common sense when pointing things out.

None of this shit is going to end until EVERYONE starts being real about things with each other.

As long as we use complaints that aren't rational, it just continues the divide....

Its not rational to think USA could have handled the Covid the same as the counties you listed Crandc. For SQ miles alone.

To me the bottom line is missinformation. When we skew things and try to win support of an ideal without laying all the facts out on the table, or topical points, we are no better than the lieing press.

Trump may have dropped the ball on it, and he will likely pay for it in November( im no voting for him).

But what happens after that? Do Trump haters think we will enter a time of utopia? that misinformation wont still be an issue? that racial inequality will no longer be an issue?

Trump dropped the ball months ago and its been beat to death. We are now three months in and that's still the focal point on peoples minds?

    Hate is blinding.

Get over Trump and start working towards a solution for the post Trump era.

Do that and i'm sold. Continue to bitch about Trumps past, and you lose me.... and many other independents.

Stay focus and stay the course. Don't backup to previous issues already beat to death. It does no good when EVERYONE (with common sense) knows he dropped the ball.

To me the bottom line is, dont bitch about the past that is already known, discuss ways to improve the future, which is currently an unknown.

Area is irrelevant. This is like the right wing nuts showing off their electoral college maps thinking empty land has votes.

Do your same analysis of cases and deaths per population, or better, population density.

Uhh no. Its travel time and deployment. It is absolutely relevant. And I did that a month ago. You must have missed it. It showed no real pattern. Some countries got hit hard with the same population and some countries didnt... employing the same methods.

This is nothing like electoral college... you cant be serious with that comparison.

Sometimes it feels as if Nevada is the Florida of the west coast. That's not a good thing.
