Does anyone have any thoughts on good cookware? I've been wanting to upgrade to a real set. All Clad D5 and C4 looks nice for high end Calphalon is much cheaper but seems sufficient. Stainless steel, copper or carbon steel? We already have a good cast iron skillet and Dutch oven.
That's seems to be the Tartine theory also. Create a nice levain and never use commercial yeast. Seems like a lot of work but I'm down for another challenge to master.
If anyone Treagers I have full proof baby back ribs, brisket and chicken wing methods for easy mode. Best BBQ outside of Texas is at my house.
Costco has a calphalon set that has a nice space saving stackable feature for $400 that I was considering.
Nice question. I'd like to find some good quality copper clad stainless steel. Currently we have a nice set of Calphalon and some odds and ends stainless steel and some cast iron but I'd like some nice copper clad stainless steel. I'm going to watch the answers to your post.
I only love Texas BBQ. I usually go to Busters in Tigard on Hwy 99W just East of the Tigard Fred Meyer.
Buster's is ok, if you haven't been to Podnahs then you have to try it. Best in town by a long shot IMHO, it's the best I have found outside of Austin or Dallas also.
I'd like to try it but it's too far away. We live in Lake Oswego. It's about three miles to Kruse Way and that's just an extension of Hwy 217. We then take the first Tigard exit and head a little over half a mile East on Barbur Blvd. to Buster's. Don't care as much for the Milwaukee Buster's. I love the smell of a woodfire and the ambience of Buster's. I always get the same thing, beef brisket poor boy with no salt french fries extra fried. I wash it down with plenty of unsweetened iced tea with lots of fresh squeezed lemon. We always tip the bus boy and the person frying the french fries. They are so appreciative and we can afford the tip. They seemingly love to see us coming.
If your ever in the neighborhood then keep it in mind. I actually had it tonight for dinner. So good.
I liked Pecan Lodge very much, but I only ate there once so it's hard to get a good feel for everything. Their rib was crazyness, $30 each and I felt like Fred Flintstone eating it. My favorite all time BBQ is The Salt Lick outside of Austin.
Austin is one of my favorite cities. 6th Street is for the kids though, it's fun to walk through but you want to be a few blocks off where the adults hang out. My work actually paid for us to get training there during the week of SXSW once, we were in the Embassy Suites downtown, best work trip ever. SXSW is like 10 block downtown music festival that last for 4 days. I did 3 other work trips there, one for 3 weeks. Never got much work done though. Lake Travis is a blast also, great party and chill spot. And the food, the BBQ in Austin is legendary. You almost can't get bad BBQ there, it is Mecca for BBQ.
Wanted to rent a house like this for a few days. Its pretty fucking expensive though. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/319759 Basically stock it with booze, drink all day, go to bars to invite girls back to the pad. Get some Franklin BBQ and Salt Lick instead of going out to a steak house. We'll see, it seems like a lot of work but don't wanna do vegas.
I used to stop there for lunch a couple times a week before covid. You can’t go wrong on that menu. beautiful little spot to have on my route for a little glutton like me
That sounds dope. You will have a blast. When are you planning it? Austin dies down a lot when school is not in session, so you might want to consider your timing. If you can do it during SXSW it will be animal house style, but I bet that is crazy expensive. I'm not a big Vegas fan. I would prefer Austin, New Orleans or Nashville over plastic city any day.
