I can understand returning fire, but getting the wrong address, the suspect already being in jail, and not announcing themselves as police negates that.

If police enter a house they don't have a search warrant for (and getting the address wrong certainly counts as not having a warrant), they should have absolutely no protections as cops--they should be considered intruders like any others.

So, in this case, they should be charged with breaking and entering and murder. The fact that they were met with gunfire and one of them got shot should not in any way be mitigating factors.

Just in the interests of accuracy, current reporting says the warrant did include that house. The police are also saying that they did knock and identify themselves.

Horrible story in any event. It's early days and there's no way of knowing what to believe yet, but nobody should have to worry about getting shot to death by police in your own home.

Ah, okay. If her home was included on the warrant, then this is a much more complicated issue.

Thanks for the clarification. It also says the police had a no knock provision, meaning, according to the article, they didn't have to announce themselves as police.

The police maintain they did knock and announce themselves. Neighbors dispute this. Though, with the provision it may be moot.

Still, a woman and an officer are dead. The dude in the house claimed self defense because he didn't know it was the cops and thought someone was breaking in. Will it fly?

    Complicated indeed

I haven't left anything lying around since 1966 when I left a $5 pair of tin snips lying on a stack of brick in a huge housing complex with no power for lights and practically a zero chance of finding things in such a large site. The next day the tin snips were gone. I used them for cutting the metal bands that held large blocks of bricks together. I had to use the chisel shaped blade on the back of a brick hammer which destroyed a brick or two until we could buy another pair of tin snips. Never left anything out since. That was in Atlanta. At that time we never had that problem in Portland. Now, you have that problem everywhere. Crime knows no boundary.

Of course it was. Why else would the term 'N' word have been used?

I'm sure it's just PURE coincidence that Black people are so disproportionately killed by cops and vigilantes.

What capital crime says a black person jogging in his neighborhood is a crime. Here's your answer, there isn't one.
