I have no problem with masks and I have no problem with the protesters, ESPECIALLY given the fucked up incident they are protesting. I don’t know how that is being taken as what I’m saying.

I’m pointing out the disconnect between a lot of the same prominent voices and entities that pushed for lockdown now being the ones basically encouraging these gatherings. Surely something is not right there...right? Isn’t there a shred of irony there somewhere? And literally nobody here can accept that as a viable thing to point out and HCP thinks I’m the fucking unibomber now.

 

And yankeesince59 is liking my posts now which adds to the confusion.

 

Not the first time, and I "like" posts based on their content not the author...would you rather I unlike them ?

This is going to come of condescending, but this outlook is like the plot of some shitty comic book or something. There doesn't always have to be an arch-villain, although wow does Trump fit the role to a T. Not all people are puppets, blindly led into stupid situations for the benefit of some dark force. Quite to the contrary, in fact.

The harsh reality is people have had enough and they are so enraged that they are putting their health to the side to protest. You better bet cases of covid will spike, and it won't be make-believe cases, but social movements come when social movements come; they can't always be convenient for everyone. These are calculated risks.

And the media. Haha. Wtf. It's the news, dude, not some sci-fi mind control ray. When in doubt, look for more sources. People just aren't as stupid as you think. This aversions to masks or anger at expert opinions is to me infinitely more disgraceful than anything the media does.

FWIW, I think that nowadays many people are too hung up on what others may say...not what they actually do, but instead, what they say.

I suppose what I was getting at is that especially because of social media, nowadays people seem to take what others may say a little too literally and judge them purely on what they type on a keyboard instead of considering their actual actions/deeds. But the problem is that not everyone is able to articulate what they really mean to say and are sometimes prejudged/misjudged by others.

Unfortunately, that's the cyber-world we now live live in.

 

Well when you make it sound completely over the top then yes, it does sound like a comic book. I didn’t exactly say any of that crazy hyperbolic shit though, you did on my behalf. The mainstream media sucks IMO, and they have an agenda that isn’t about reporting honestly, it’s about adding or omitting information at the behest of their paid sponsors, who are usually large financial institutions, lobby groups and government or military contractors. That’s why you get such conflicting information from them, because I guess conflict is the goal? I’ve looked for more sources and that’s what I’ve found. A lot of the news I get is from left-leaning alternative media sources like The Hill or Jimmy Dore.

 

It's a pretty shitty situation that we have to choose between protecting the vulnerable because of their health/age/immune or those vulnerable because of systematic failure and racism. There is no irony in supporting trying to protect both - and understanding that they might interfere with each other. If only the virus or the racists could coordinate...

Talk about blaming the wrong thing...
